Blake surprises us by telling Noah that Dean Martin is his hero, and what he loves about Dean is that he didn't give a crap.

Cover photo
Hey pallies, likes it is always so so cool to find 'nother of today's talented entertainers speakin' of their absolute amore of our most beloved Dino.  So, likes on this day-before-the-last-day of Dino-amore month we were thrilled to gets a google Dino-'lert from the blog "NJ.com" spreadin' the wonderful words of country music star Mr. Blake Shelton professin' that "Dean Martin is his hero" as recorded below from the post, "'The Voice' 2014 recap: Adam Levine snaps up country cutie Cary Laine" scribed by Miss Vicki  Hyman.

The context of Shelton proud profession  of Dino-adulation is in his role as a vocal coach for the NBC show, "The Voice."  As you will read below, both Blake and Adam Levine were both wooin' jazz singer contestant Mr. Noah Lis to become his chosen coach on the show, and Blake's hugest of huge sellin- point to Lis was "telling Noah that Dean Martin is his hero, and what he loves about Dean is that he didn't give a crap."  And, likes, of course, how coulda Noah resist, pickin' Blake as his coach.

Likes it is always always remarkably refreshin' to find 'nother of today's up and comin' singers, likes Blake Shelton, who boldly and beau-ti-fully announce to the whole wide world their absolute adulation of our most beloved Dino and the immeasurable impact that our Dino has had on their life and times.....indeed the transformin' power of our King of Cool!!!!

ilovedinomartin salutes Mr. Shelton for his powerfully public display of passion only for our Dino over the air waves of the National Broadcastin' Network, and to Miss Vicki Hyman and the pallies at "NJ.com" for hittin' the web with this deep deep Dino-news.  Likes to checks this out in it's original format, and to read the entire post, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-report.   And, ilovedinomartin wishes Mr.  Noah Lis great success as he croons on "The Voice."    Dino-always, ever, and only, DMP

Meanwhile, Blake somehow managed to lure an earnest jazz singer to his team by professing his love of ... Dean Martin? It's opposites night!

Noah Lis, 22, Palmer, Miss., "Me and Mrs. Jones," Billy Paul: In a night otherwise and refreshingly free of sob stories, Noah shares that his grandfather, a huge jazz lover, has always been his biggest fan, and said he wouldn't die until Noah became famous ... but he died last year. Sad trombone. Noah shows good control and a nice vibrato, and avoids the kitschy throwback sound of so many Rat Pack wannabes. He's a little nasal, though. Adam and Blake hit their buzzers at the last minute. Adam says he's prepared to plant Noah in the jazz pantheon, but Blake surprises us by telling Noah that Dean Martin is his hero, and what he loves about Dean is that he didn't give a crap. "Do you know anyone else in the entertainment industry who gives less of a crap than me?" For some reason, that's enough for Noah to choose Blake.

On This Day In Dino-history: February 24, 1976

Hey pallies, likes it's 'nother important day in Dino-history today....and indeed it has an amore theme to it as well, but likes then what coulda there be 'bout our most beloved Dino's life that doesn't touch on amore in some Dino-way?!?!?!   Likes it  was on  February 24, in the year of our Dino 1976 that our  Dino legally cut the strings to wife numero three, Catherine Mae Hawn, and ever more woulda be a free agent to be the swankest of swank swinger....ever cool, ever hip, ever randy!

Likes I found the "TV Movie Screen" cover below likes so so revealin' that our great man the day after he said I do to Cathy, was already havin' second thoughts 'bout his marriage to her. At least, on paper the marriage lasted not quite three years.

Our Dino crooned that he was "Not The Marryin' Kind" and indeed after he became free of Miss Hawn, he chose not to tie the knot 'gain 'though in an filmed interview he alluded to the possiblity of returnin' to wife numbero duo, Jeanne Biegger, but that was not to happen. This Dino-date was verified by the pallies at the Dean Martin Timeline, which you can check out if you clicks on the tag of this Dino-gram. Dino-rememberin', DMP

February 24, 1976 Catherine and Dean's divorce is final.

Eds Epistle Jerry Lewis Interview

Me: “Hello Mr. Lewis”
Jerry Lewis: “Hello young man”
Me: “Mr. Lewis, I have a two part question. First, have you considered making an autobiographical movie, and second who would you like to see playing you and Dean?”
Jerry Lewis: "Well I couldn’t get Robert Redford….but no, I’ve accomplished everything I want to do a haven’t considered making any more movies."
Me: “Who would you like to see playing Dean?”
Jerry Lewis: “SIT DOWN!”

My brief 45 second “one-on-one” interview with Jerry Lewis, the elements of tragedy, and comedy. We saw both sides of the clown face of Jerry we’re all accustomed to.
Joking with me about the microphone being too low, and then after speaking louder he asked “why are you yelling?!? At 87 Jerry is still full of piss and vinegar, and very much on his comic game. He holds no bars, and nothing is out of bounds. Sexist jokes, race jokes, religious, you name it he had one for everyone.

Jerry Lewis was in Central Florida this January and I had the privilege of having 2nd row seats to see the 5th most recognized man in the world. I know he’s the 5th most
recognizable person in the world because he told us!
Mr. Lewis a very proud man a never ashamed of telling it like he sees it and never forgetting to remind us of all the wonderful things he’s done over the decades in the business.
I was there to witness the monkey half of Martin and Lewis, primarily to grasp on whatever is left of historic ‘lightning in the bottle” rise to fame of our great Dino.

We can have our doubts, our opinions of Mr. Lewis, however you can’t take away the great honor in which he continues to keep that torch that that “lightning has lit some 50+ years ago.
He tells the story of how Dino loved his Italian pasta, being able to smell him coming down the hallway with the smell of garlic. It was wonderful to hear him talk of Dino, especially since a the small tidbits I’ve never heard before. The only living person outside of Jeanne is Jerry, and he still possess Dino gold with respect to stories and such.
Jerry also told stories of other comics and Hollywood legends, and performed his famous typewriter bit set to music he originally did in the movie “Who’s Minding The Store” in 1963.

On a side note, Jerry did divulge a bombshell of Jerry Lewis movie trivia. He admitted that the reason the “Day the Clown Died” was never released was because it wasn’t happy how the movie turned out.

Outside of some technical video glitches the night was wonderful. The crowd obviously has a long standing love affair with Jerry.  Who knows how long the great Jerry Lewis will be roaming this earth along side us. I hope he makes to 100. I also hope to perhaps one day see him again perform. Its great to see him continue the great job of keeping our Dino spirit alive and well.

Martin swept music lovers off their feet and into the arms of elegant, light and carefree romance.

Hey pallies, likes Dino-amore-month marches on and we find ourselves askin' the evocative question, "Is there anyone who doesn't need the love of our Dino?"  Well, likes we knows the plain and simply truth is that everybody everywhere is indeed in need  of Dino-amore, but today's post accents a certain segment of the population who can hugely hugely benefit from spendin' time bein' crooned by our King of Cool.

From the blog, Alz Tunes, " an online community platform, for caregivers and others, interested in using music to improve the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias," comes a dude tagged Adam's prose "5 Memorable and Timeless Dean Martin Songs."

Now we think that Adam is right on the Dino-mark here 'cause like whose tunes coulda be more "memorable" then our Dino?  And, likes whose tunes are truly truly "timeless" in appeal then our great great man?  Likes, the answer to both provocative quires is, of course, zero, zip, nadda!  There coulda never ever be anyone's performances more soothin' and comfortin' for those strugglin' with memory loss then our King of Cool.

And, likes Adam has chosen a quintet of our Dino's best to share with his blog readership  They're all songs of amore......even the one that is seasonal in selection is so so filled with the most lovin' of thoughts.  So, this post is very timely in our month of most special amore to Dino!

ilovedinomartin gratefully salutes Mr. Adam and all the pallies at "AlzTunes" for highlightin' our most beloved Dino and remindin' all of us of the transformin' power that our Dino has 'specially for those whose memories can be most improved by takin' in huge quanities of our Dino's soothin's sounds.

5 Memorable and Timeless Dean Martin Songs

By Adam On February 6, 2014 · Add Comment · In Blog

Many of us cherish songs for personal reasons. The emotional connection we have with music still remains well after the onset of dementia. The favourite love songs we used to listen to can help us connect with memories from our past. Even though everybody’s top song list is unique, there are some songs that are more universally loved.
Get ready to make way for our new beloved and featured musician of the week. He’s known as the ‘King of Cool’ and one of America’s most popular romantic singers of the mid-20th century – Dean Martin. As a celebrated ballad, jazz, and pop singer in the 50s and 60s, Martin swept music lovers off their feet and into the arms of elegant, light and carefree romance. Here are 5 of his love songs that will live on and on in our memories.

1. Everybody Loves Somebody (1964)

Everybody Loves Somebody is a laid-back, intimate song about falling in love after just a kiss. In 1964, it had been nearly 6 years since Martin had scored a Top 40 hit. But when Martin released Everybody Loves Somebody, the song conquered The Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts for 8 straight weeks. It became Martin’s most famous song, which he sang for nine years on his variety TV show, The Dean Martin Show.

2. That’s Amore (1953)

That’s Amore is a colourful, happy song about how alive and beautiful it feels to be in love. This signature tune was first released on Martin’s and Jerry Lewis’s comedy movie soundtrack, The Caddy. Martin first performed That’s Amore in the movie and the song received a nomination for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards. That year, the song scored No. 2 on The Billboard Charts.

3. Let It Snow (1966)

Let It Snow is a lively, romantic song about a couple keeping warm together indoors on a snowy day. Other musicians like Patsy Cline, Herb Alpert, Chris Isaak, the Carpenters, Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Carly Simon, and Jessica Simpson have sung it as well, but Let It Snow wouldn’t be the classic Christmas song it is without Martin’s light touch.

4. Ain’t That a Kick in the Head (1960)

Ain’t That a Kick in the Head is a fun, cheerful song about the pleasant and dizzying effects love can make us feel.  Though the song has appeared in many movies and TV shows, including The Butler, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Six Feet Under, it first appeared in the original Ocean’s 11 movie, which Martin personally starred in and performed himself.

5. Memories Are Made of This (1956)

Memories Are Made of This is a ‘sweet-sweet’, endearing song about the lifelong, happy memories that a singer’s wife has given him. It was Martin’s first hot single after splitting up with his comedy routine partner, Lewis.  The song scored No.1 on The Billboard Charts for 6 straight weeks and even scored No.1 on the UK charts for 4 straight weeks.

Classic crooners come back

SHOWMEN: Johnny Edwards, David de Costa and Nicholas Brooks as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr.

FOR 20 years Johnny Edwards has been performing around the world, most famously with David de Costa and Nicholas Brooks as The Rat Pack.

See your ad here
This will be Edwards' third time bringing the charm of Dean Martin to Australian stages, having toured in 2010 and 2012.

"We're very excited about coming back to Australia," Edwards told the Advertiser.

"We jumped at the opportunity.

"Australia has great audiences; the show is well-received."

The Rat Pack will perform at The Cube, which they have previously played in.

"We had a great time there," he said.

"When you leave the US the audiences are so much more receptive. They treat you like the real guys."

Getting into the character of Dean Martin became easier for Edwards when he got the chance to perform for members of Dean Martin's family.

After seeing the concert in Las Vegas and Palm Springs they gained an appreciation for what Edwards was doing.

"You get a history lesson after every show on their experiences with Dean," Edwards said.

"It's like a never-ending learning experience."

Edwards was attracted to the character of Dean Martin because of the similarities he saw with himself.

"I was the unofficial class clown growing up," he said.

"Dean didn't even have to say anything, he just put smiles on peoples faces because he had that childlike charm. He could tell the worst joke in the world and make it funny."

As the cousin of pop singer Cyndi Lauper, Edwards gained invaluable experience in the music industry from a young age.

He would wait for her backstage after a show and her crew would say "she's your biggest fan — she's always bragging about how talented you are".

Edwards said: "She always told me, 'Never be satisfied with where you're at because you can always be better'. She always made me feel special."

Twenty years later, Edwards is still excited to perform.

"People are going to have a great time and see a great show that will give them memories to last a lifetime," he said. "We encourage the audience to join in. We tell them, 'This is a party and you're all invited'."

Dean Martin's

Reprise Records Catalog

Comes to Legacy Recordings

NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, in partnership with the Dean Martin Family Trust, has acquired the singer's legendary Reprise Records catalog and begun remastering titles for a major ongoing reissue project.

The Dean Martin Reprise catalog acquisition includes all the recordings Dino made during his extraordinary creative tenure (1962-1974) at Rat Pack chairman Frank Sinatra's Reprise Records label. The Nashville Sessions, the album Martin cut for Warner Bros in 1983, is also included.

The Dean Martin reissue project began with the first digital releases of The Dean Martin Christmas Album, 1966's #1 Christmas album and perennial holiday classic, and Dean Martin: The Reprise Years, a 2-disc anthology of the crooner's high points at the label.

Legacy Recordings is remastering all the tracks in Dean Martin's Reprise catalog with an eye toward releasing the catalog digitally and physically over the course of the next year.

On January 20, Legacy released The Very Best of Dean Martin as part of the label's popular Playlist series. The Dean Martin Playlist contains:

"Dean's music and style embody the very essence of 'cool' and now is the perfect time to introduce this timeless pop music to future fans."

One of the great lounge singers of the pre-rock era, Dean Martin hit his stride as a cultural icon during his years with Reprise, knocking the Beatles off the top of the charts in August 1964 with a dreamy contemporary take on "Everybody Loves Somebody (Sometime)," a standard he'd sung on Bob Hope's radio show in 1948 that became one of his theme songs, a sentiment so universal it's on his gravestone.

A multi-faceted artist whose talents crossed media boundaries, Dean Martin has three stars on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame: one for recording, one for movies, and one for television, where he introduced Americans to Celebrity Roasts in the 1970s.

The genius of Dean Martin is that he made everything sound easy and classy and fun. Relaxed and comfortable, with a beatific self-assurance that transcended confidence, Dino's one of the greatest singers who ever cut records. On his Reprise Recordings, the King of Cool is also his most soulful.

Hey pallies, likes today's Dino-gram is so so fittin' seein' how we are smack dab in the middle of Dino-amore month.  From the nostalgic blog, "Bird's Eye View Of The Katydid," where a kind and gentle lady named Kay Comer holds forth comes her true life reflection, "Reminiscing with Dean Martin-Everybody Loves Somebody...Songs of Yesteryear."

As you read this tender-hearted post you will discover Miss Kay's almost 50 year remembrance of the remarkable role that our Dino-s biggest croon of amore, "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime," played in her life as a teenager in the summer of '64 when our most beloved Dino knocked the Beatles off the charts with his now signature song.  You will read 'bout a young lad tagged Richard who was smitten by the youthful Kay and now as an intern at a radio station he played our Dino's hugest of huge hit every of the week at 4 p.m. in honor of his attraction to Comer.

Reminiscing with Dean Martin-Everybody Loves Somebody...Songs of Yesteryear

Thanks For The Memories:  Songs of Yesteryear
Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime
Dean Martin
It's the week for love and we're reminiscing with old love songs from the 'good old days'...

This song was written for Frank Sinatra way back in 1947 by Sam Coslow, Ken Lane and Irving Taylor. But the old Rat Pack Geezer just couldn't quite cut the rug with it.  Frank's version was released in 1948...but bombed big time.
Then it was recorded in the 50's by Peggy Lee and Dinah Washington...but still remained a dud.

In 1964, Dean Martin was finishing up recording his new album Dream with Dean and had just completed 11 of the songs for the album, but needed a 12th song.  Ken Lane just happened to be his pianist on that album and he suggested Dean give "Everybody Loves Somebody" a shot and see what HE could do with it.  For this particular song on the album...they added a bass player, a guitar and drums.  And the reaction to Dean's version was so great that he went back to the studio and re-recorded it for a single release with a full orchestra and background singers.
It was such a hit that it knocked "A Hard Day's Night" right out of its #1 spot on the charts.  AND it became Dean's theme song for his TV show the very next year in 1965.

One day...in the summer of 1964...I was sitting in the front porch swing of our home on the main street in Metropolis and this tall young man pulled up in his car and walked up on the porch.  He said he was interning at WMOK for the summer and he was noticing me each day when he passed and he just thought he'd stop and get to know me and maybe we could go to a movie or something sometime.
I didn't feel I should go into the story of my mustard seed miracle I was in the process of praying up and how I was waiting on little Billy Ray Comer to notice me as HE ran back and forth up that street in his 1958 Ford retractible hardtop with the big MOON eyes in the rear window......But Richard was very nice...very polite...cute as a speckled pup and we really hit it off just right there on the porch.
Every day he'd stop on the way to the radio station and ask me out for after work...and I'd always say no I'd better not...but he'd always stop back by after work and we'd sit on the porch and just gab about the price of rice in China and how he thought we would be the perfect couple.  :-)

I don't know how this got started...or WHY this particular song...but I DID get to where I'd listen to him on WMOK after he left my house and went on to work each day...and one day at 4pm...he just said "I want to do something a little out of the ordinary today...I want to play this very special song for the sweetest little girl in Massac County...and she lives down on 5th Street" And the music started and that big roll at the beginning of this song just burst right out of Cloud 9 and right into my little bashful heart....hahahahaha   I set there in awe that someone would DO something like that FOR me...and Richard began planning out future together....hahahahaha
From that day forward....every single day without fail...all summer long...at 4pm each day....I'd hear Richard say "I want to play this very special song for the sweetest little girl in Massac County...and she lives down on 5th Street"  :-)  EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!

Well....summer came to an end that year...as summers tend to do each year and Richard had to go back to his home in Morris, Illinois.  He assured me that we were an unbeatable couple and I couldn't waste my life on a prayer and a pipe dream...but I felt certain little Billy Ray Comer was supposed to be mine forever after...so I stood strong in my faith and my plan.

Later into the fall of that year...I got a letter from Richard and he was telling me how even though we had not been an actual 'dating couple' that summer...he just couldn't get me off of his mind....aaawwwww   :-)   And he said "If your pray goes unanswered and your plan falls through...always remember ... there are other fish in the sea"  And he signed his letter "Love Always...A Fish In The Sea"

NOW ISN'T THAT THE MOST ROMANTIC STORY?????????????????????  AND IT'S ALL MY STORY!!!!!!!   hahahahaha

Now did you all notice that I just kinda skimmed OVER 'the geezer' in this story?   How'd I Do?  :-)

I was absolutely enthralled with Richard...because he was so SO sweet and attentive and made me feel so special...but there was no real romance there at all on my end....But to this very day...every single time I hear this song...chills just run from the top of my head to the very end of my tippy toes....Thanks Richard for such a sweet and innocent memory.....

Now I have one more love song...and we'll talk about that one soon too... this other song doesn't quite give me the feeling this song does...but it was sung to me one night...on a date...just like on a romantic TV movie...And there you guys thought I was this little plain wallflower out here in the boonies that hasn't even lived....hahahahaha

Thanks For The Memories:  Songs Of yesteryear
will be posted before the blog some, many or most mornings...hahaha
I can't get more honest than that.

But here's the kicker...no matter what I talk about in my blog each morning...By posting a daily love song from yesteryear and talking a little about it...there will always be a little love coming daily from me...to you.

The very best love stories just have no ending
and I'm just so very blessed to be living one of those love stories.

BE THE CHANGE and LIVE AND LOVE WITH PASSION

Dean “Dino” Martin: The King of Cool

Dean “Dino” Martin

I cannot even begin to describe how much i love this artist. He’s the best, the classiest, most talented man to have enver lived. Okay that might be opionated slightly but I think many would agree that Martin is a class act. I remember when I first really started to love Dino, it wasn’t even a year ago when I clicked on a video posted on my blog. The video was of the Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin) playing at a gig with Ed Sulliven. The way he sang, the swave of his voice, the smooth classy feel to him brought chills to my spine. I remember at that moment, I wanted to be him, and ever since that, I have promised myself that I would transform myself to a man of his caliber. There are just aren’t enough words to describe it.

Happy Dino-Amore Day! Dino's last TV Interview

Hey pallies, likes it's finally here dudes, Dino-amore-day 2014, and in honor of this swankest of swank, most special of special day of amorin' our most beloved Dino, ilovedinomartin reprints our most devoted Dino-holic Ed's special ver-si-on of Ed's Epistle of Amore 2013.  Ed's prose is always so deep and rich, and likes this is no 'ception dudes!

And, like Ed shares with us the vid clip from his own private Dino-collection of our great great man's last television interveiw with Mr. Geraldo Rivera on November 25. 1994.  We certainly don't have words to express our deepest of deep Dino-appreciato to pallie Ed for his wondrously wise way of spreadin' the Dino-message of cool to all us Dino-addicted dudes!  Dino-amorin', DMP

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by. ~James Matthew Barrie

After the cork is popped, wine poured, life’s last vino drop slides gullets way, we relish in the palisades of it's warm afterglow. Golden afterglows, embraced like loved ones in a dream, memories.

Stories. The cork, the cork has a story. As does the vino, the glass, and the bottle too! Oh if bottles could talk. Them's stories for another day, Pally.

Vintage 1917, hell of a vine to drop this grape, baby. Earthy, body full, hint of amore, leaves the pallet cool. This bottle 'o Dino been popped and celebrated.
Bottle dry, glass emptyBasking in Dino afterglow we are, baby.

This edition of Ed's Epistle is heavy on the golden afterglow of our Dino. Deep into the treasure chest of memories lies a lone VHS tape simply scribed, "Martin on Geraldo". There was no way of foretelling this historic moment that which seemed to have been lost to history without mention. Never have I heard mention of this Dino-moment, little lone a search, or request for it.

From time to time I would view the tape, at first not thinking much of its uniqueness. As time stretched out, it began to dawn on me that the Geraldo show may have been special. So I took a glance at the bible of Dino, A Complete Guide to the "Total Entertainer" and sure enough it was his last TV interview.

How strange, how rare, how historic. I thought by now in this day and internet age this clip would have surfaced. But is hasn't until now, only on our blog.

So this glorious Dino-casion of Dino-casions, we wish you a Happy Dino-Amore Day, and present to you

Dino's last television interview.
Geraldo Rivera, November 25, 1994. Dino on the horn, sharp, witty, cool. Enjoy.

Rat Pack make on the way to town

FOR SINGER Johnny Edwards, playing Dean Martin was always something he strived to do.

When he began making his way in the industry in Las Vegas in 1993, he was originally cast as an Elvis performer.

See your ad here
“They told me I had the looks for a strong Elvis,” Edwards said.

“But I always wanted to be Dean Martin. His personality is closer to mine.

“Elvis actually idolised Martin so it was a good start while I waited to be mature enough to play Dean Martin.”

Edwards said he grew up watching Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

“Jerry was the heavy comedy but I was always intrigued by Martin. He always got the girl and he had this charm mixed with great humour.”

Eleven years later Edwards got his wish and was cast as Dean Martin in The Rat Pack Live From Vegas touring show.

He has since developed his impression and continued to tour as Martin.

“You can never be 100 per cent Dean Martin,” he said.

“I watch the same video and can pick some different nuance (I didn’t notice) every time.

“You learn enough that it becomes second nature to you but you always look to improve whether it’s your make-up or hair, his expression, the way he holds a glass or smokes a cigarette.”

Edwards is teaming up with David De Costa (as Frank Sinatra) and Nicholas Brooks (as Sammy Davis Jnr) for the tour that arrives in Bendigo on February 16.

Edwards says the show is sure to feature favourite songs, dances and gags.

“There will be Everybody Loves Somebody, which is Dean’s love song to the audience, Kick in the Head and Volari, which is a favourite of mine,” he said.

“We also make fun of each other on stage. Frank is the serious guy but we don’t give him much of a chance to stay serious - our goal is to one-up Frank.

“When they used to perform together Dean would usually win out. He would entertain the audience from the back of the stage.”

Edwards has also had the chance to come to grips with the massive stardom The Rat Pack and other stars face. His cousin is pop star Cyndi Lauper.

“When she first started to hit her stride I was always following her to performances,” Edwards said.

“I’ve seen first-hand the ups and downs of the business and know you can’t listen to critics and can never be satisfied.”

And satisfaction is something Edwards is sure the audiences will be after The Rat Pack’s shows.

“We try to make the show our own big party that the audience is invited to,” he said.

“It’s three guys who are friends, on stage and singing to the audience. We want the audience to be part of the show.”

I hear the sound of music
Your favorite kind of music
And that reminds me dear of you

I see the summer roses
Your favorite shade of roses
And that reminds me too of you dear

If I could hear no music
If there could be no roses
No summer nights to make me dream as I do
I still would not forget you
One thing would still be true
My heart reminds me I love you

I still would not forget you

Vegas talent heads to Mandurah

GROWING up, Johnny Edwards spent his days learning impressions, practicing comedy and spending hours in front of the television watching his idol, Dean Martin.

He was the unofficial class clown who would imitate teachers, perfecting different mannerisms down to a ‘t’.

More than four decades on and those important life lessons are coming in handy as Edwards takes on the persona of his childhood hero.

“I was such a fan when I was a kid,” Edwards said.

“I was captivated by him – his personality, good looks and he was funny.

“All I wanted to do was act like him as a kid.”

Then came Edwards’ time in Las Vegas, spending time on stage in various other people’s shoes.

Although Johnny had other idols in his life such as music icons Elvis Presley, and Roy Orbison who he would later portray in varies stage shows around the world, it was Dean Martin that combined all the aspects of what was important in entertainment and made it one.

“He was such a likeable character,” Edwards said.

“People treated him like their best friend; they were drawn to him.

“And when I dressed like I am, with the tux and the hair, people think I am him.

“This is the character I am more like personally.”

Edwards said while Martin was the King of Cool in the limelight, his personal life was different story.

Much like the impersonator, Martin was family orientated and liked relaxing with a game of golf.

“But he was known for his womanising ways, so that’s how I’ll play him,” Edwards said.

Although it’s not just Martin’s singing which Edwards takes into his performance.

He takes into consideration the looks, mannerisms and all round performance.

“He had a great sense of timing,” Edwards said.

“He could tell the worse joke and it would funny.

“A lot of it was ad-lib; he would shoot from the hip.

“So that’s what I’ll be doing; telling Dean-esk stories.”

Joining Edwards on stage is David De Costa and Nicholas Brooks, known better for their alter egos, Frank Sinatra and Sammy David Junior.

Together the trio recreate The Rat Pack.

“We’ll recreate Vegas from the 1960’s,” Edwards said.

“It’s a formula which brings audience interaction.

“We encourage them to yell out, sing along, because it makes it bigger.

“And with Nicholas Brookes and David De Costa, people aren’t going to be disappointed.

“They put their heart into and bring their voice to the table to remember the original.”

The Rat Pack from Vegas will be at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on February 26.
