Who influenced Dean Martin's personality, humor, and musical style?

Robert Frost, Instructor and Flight Controller at NASA

Primarily two guys named Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
Dean Martin said that his greatest influence came from Harry Mills of the Mills Brothers. It was one of his greatest joys to invite them to perform on his television variety show.

Al Jolson and Bing Crosby were also influences. Here’s Dean singing a Jolson medley with Bing.

It's no secret that Dean Martin was the coolest guy in the world. Today would have been his 101st birthday.

My photo
Hey pallies, likes we continue to use the ol' google blog search engine lookin' for more and more Dino-honorin' posts as we wind down our 2018 celebration of our Dino's 101 anniversary of his descent to our planet on June 7, 1917, as we lovin' reference it here at ilovedinomartin, The Day That Coolness Came To Earth.

Today we are deeply delighted to deeper then deep Dino-devotion from a self-tagged pad, "THE STEPHEN W. TERRELL (MUSIC) WEB LOG" and Mr. Terrell's perfect post, "THROWBACK THURSDAY: Happy Birthday, Dino!" Steve's bio tells us that he hails from New Mexico and has been a reporter 'n columnist at the Santa Fe New Mexican since 1987.  Also by searchin' his web pad that Terrell is also a musician himself.

Youse can totally totally tell that Steve is sold out to our Dino...fantastically filled with deeper then deep Dino-adulation when he sez, "Elvis Presley idolized him and I loved him too. When I was a kid, Dino and his devilish grin made me suspect that my parents' generation might not be as square as they'd have you believe."  It's crystal clear that Steve has been groovin' on our most beloved Dino since he was of tender age!

Likes below is a powerful pix of our Dino 'long with potent patter and a quintessential quartet of Dino-vid clips.  And, youse will note that Steve includes a link to his most Dino-honorin' post from his 2016 awesome adulation of Dino's day of days.  We thought that we had perhaps shared that earlier post here at ilovedinomartin, but we couldn't locate it in our annuals.  So clicks on Terrell's link and enjoy more Dino-devotion as well.

ilovedinomartin shouts out our awesome admiration of Mr. Stephen Terrell for our main man through his powerfully personal testimony of Dino-amore and classic youtube Dino-vids.  To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-report.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Happy Birthday, Dino!

It's no secret that Dean Martin was the coolest guy in the world. Today would have been his 101st birthday.

Happy birthday, Dino!

As I wrote a  couple of years ago:

Elvis Presley idolized him and I loved him too. When I was a kid, Dino and his devilish grin made me suspect that my parents' generation might not be as square as they'd have you believe.

To celebrate here are some live videos.

Let's start off with this classic. a medley of "Volare" and "Evening in Roma."

I first heard this song on a Jerry Lee Lewis (not Jerry Lewis) record. Dino does a great job on it also.

This is Dean's signature song. Listen close. He's not always reverent with the lyrics.

Here's a song from the original Oceans 11 featuring Red Norvo on vibes.

I also posted about Dean Martin's birthday a couple of years ago. You'll find more videos HERE.

Happy Birthday to the “@King of Cool” Dean Martin who would have been 101 today.

Likes today we have yet 'nother primo post powerfully payin' touchin' 'n tender tribute to our King of Cool and it comes from a swank source known for it's delight decades long connection with our Dino.
From the twitter pad "Capitol Vaults," of course home to Capitol Records for whom our Dino recorded a ton of hits in the '50's comes "Happy Birthday to the '@KingofCool' Dean Martin who would have been 101 today. His legend lives on as an American icon, @CapitolRecords artist, and entertainment pioneer."

Indeed as the Capitol pallies sez, our Dino is "an American icon" whose "legend lives on" and likes indeed our main man is an "entertainment pioneer."  In fact the theme of our Dino bein' a powerful pioneer of the entertainment industry woulda makes a superb subject of a Dino-essay or two or three or more!  How greatly grand it would be to potently ponder the many and varied ways that our Dino was, and still is, a proud pioneer in so so many Dino-ways!

Likes we also the incredible image from the Capitol vaults that they have used to hugely homage our Dino.  We sez our thanks to the pallies at Capitol records for continuin' to lovin'ly love on our Dino decades after he last recorded a croon for 'em...simply showin' the supreme stayin' power of our one, our only Dino.   To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-gram.

Happy birthday Dino!

Hey pallies, likes in doin' some Dino-searchin' via the google search engine for homages of our most beloved Dino to share here on our month long celebration of  the 101st anniversary of our Dino's descent to our planet, as we loves to tag it, The Day That Coolness Came To Earth, we found the followin' primo post below from the Marilyn Monroe honorin' blog tagged "Marilyn Remembered."
Likes it is superbly sweet to see a fan site dedicated to Miss Marilyn Monroe tenderly 'n touchin'ly reverently rememberin' our most beloved Dino on this birthday.

It fondly fills our Dino-hearts with deepest delight to have the pallies  at "Marilyn Remembered," 'specially Miss Lorraine who scribed this precious post, celebrate the remarkable relationship that our Dino had with Miss Marilyn.  We largely loves how the story is retold below of how Miss Monroe "picked" our Dino to star with her in "Something's Gotta Give," and how our Dino "gallantly stood up for his friend after she was dismissed by Twentieth Century-Fox."  Our great great man showed his greatness by refusin' to return to the movie set after Miss Marilyn was removed from the flick.

We thanks the pallies at "Marilyn Remembered," 'specially Miss Lorraine for hugely homagin' our King of Cool on his special day and for remindin' all of us Dino-holics just how keenly kind and lastin'ly loyal our beloved Dino was with Miss Marilyn Monroe.  To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-report.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAN MARTIN

Today we are wishing Dean Martin a very happy birthday on what would have been his 101st birthday.  Martin was one of the most popular singers, actors, comedians and entertainers of the twentieth century with a career spanning over 5 decades.  His musical hits include: “That’s Amore,” “Everybody Loves Somebody,” “Sway” and “Mambo Italiano” to name a few.  He formed the immensely popular comedy duo “Martin and Lewis” with Jerry Lewis with Martin serving as the straight man to Lewis’ slapstick hijinks. Martin went on to become a star of concert stages, night clubs audio recordings, motion pictures and television and was also a member of the legendary “Rat Pack” alongside Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe and Jerry Lewis at the Master’s of ceremony for Redbook, 1953.
Taken from “The Marilyn Encyclopedia” by Adam Victor
“Crooning lead Martin made his name in the 1950’s in a double act with Jerry Lewis, before going on to a solo career in the 1960’s that ranked him with fellow Rat Pack member Frank Sinatra.  These films included “The Stooge” (1952), “Pardners” (1956), “Rio Bravo” (1959), “Kiss Me Stupid” and many more.
Martin and Monroe almost worked together on “Some Came Running” (1958).  After Marilyn moved back to Los Angeles in 1961, she saw a lot of Martin and his wife Jeanne.
Martin became involved in “Something’s Got To Give” after Marilyn picked him; in some reports he had invested a personal stake in the production.  Martin gallantly stood up for his friend after she was dismissed by Twentieth Century-Fox.  The studio hired Lee Remick as Marilyn’s replacement, but Martin invoked a clause in his contract allowing him approval of his opposite number, and informed the studio that he would not work with anyone except Marilyn on this picture.  Fox sued Martin, Martin sued Fox, and then the picture was put back on track, to no small degree because of Martin’s intransingence and support for Marilyn.”

Happy birthday Dino!
