There will never be another entertainment team like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Hey pallies, likes cyber space world is full of  intriguin' info on the life, times, and teachin's of our most beloved Dino, but as today's Dino-gram to all youse Dino-holics will exhibit, not always is that info absolutely accurate.  We are always greatly grateful to pallies of all types and stripes, all ages and stages who spread the new of our mighty marvelous Dino, but it we are always completely concerned when their Dino-efforts speak less then the Dino-truth.

Recently the pallies at google 'lerts sent us a Dino-'lert to head on over to the gamblin' pad with the initials lcb, which by doin' a wee bit of researchin' stands for "Latest Casino Bonuses."  Once there we found Dino-prose scribed by Mr. Geno Lawrenzi Jr. tagged "The Singer and The Comic."  Likes, of course, "The Singer" reverently revers to our Dino and "The Comic" refers to our Dino's partner, Mr. Jerry Lewis.  From patter Mr. Lawrenzi Jr. shared in response to a reader's comments we learn that he "grew up near Steubenville, Ohio and Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were gamblers. That is why I wrote about them."

Likes Geno's openin' statement in his prose is truly in the Dino-mark when he sez, as we have used for the tag of this Dino-post, "There will never be another entertainment team like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis."  And, quite a bit of his other observations are also mostly accurate, but there are numerous remarks in his written words that simply are off base and we ain't sure where he got his info from.  We are gonna invites all youse Dino-philes to patter us with the errors you discover in Geno's prose....a great way of settin' the Dino-story straight and share your Dino-devotion as well.

We thanks Mr. Geno Lawrenzi Jr. for his efforts in sharin' the life and times of our Dino 'long with his partner, Mr. Jerry Lewis, but we are saddened that not every Dino-detail is representative of our most beloved Dino.  To checks this out in it's original source, simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-message.

The Singer and The Comic

By Geno Lawrenzi Jr.

The Singer and The Comic
There will never be another entertainment team like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
They both had a lot in common. They were gamblers, they liked women, they came from obscure backgrounds, and they knew how to make America laugh.

They seemed to be perfect partners...

...but there was one problem, they didn't really like one another. That cost them their partnership at the height of their career when their income ranged around $15 million a year.
Lewis was born in Newark, N.J. Martin was born Dino Crocetti, the son of an Italian immigrant barber, in Steubenville, Ohio.
Steubenville, population around 22,00, was a river front community of working class Americans made up of Italians, Welsh, Irish, English and other ethnic groups. The city had steel mills, coal miners, bars, pool halls, gambling and houses of prostitution.
They seemed to be perfect partners...
Neighboring communities as far away as Pittsburgh, PA. where I lived, Cleveland, and Wheeling, WV. knew it was a wide open town where almost anything was available if you had the money.

Pool Halls Gambling Fronts

There would be a back room where you could play poker, shoot dice, or gamble on other games of chance. Martin learned to play pool and shoot dice when he was 12 years old. During the Depression years, he made more money on a daily basis shooting craps and filled his pockets with silver dollars from the losers.
Martin grew up with dark wavy hair, an engaging smile that turned on members of the opposite sex, and a soft romantic singing voice that could set feminine hearts a flutter.

Jerry Lewis was just Jerry...

...a man who was born to entertain. He could do imitations, act like a mad chimpanzee, and draw laughs out of the most stoic audience. They never planned to team up as partners. It just happened.
Their act started as a sort of joke. They would get in front of a crowd and start ad-libing. Martin proved to have an uncanny sense of timing and a built-in ability to respond to respond to whatever Lewis said. The audience loved it.
Their reputation as performers grew and before long they were in demand at top theaters and casinos in Atlantic CityLas VegasReno and around the country. Their salaries grew and Hollywood beckoned. The women followed them wherever they went.

“in demand at top theaters and casinos in Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Reno and around the country”

Dean had an easy going way that seemed to say he had no problems with the world.
Wrong!
Underneath he never let anyone know what he was thinking. Even his ex-wives said they never really understood him.
Lewis loved acting and thought he could become a serious actor. The problem was producers never took him seriously. They would put him in a film for laughs and the movies always made money.

Resentment

Jerry resented Dean's talent. For a while he tried to hide it, but it finally exploded and it caused their partnership to rupture.
Resentment
Lewis tried to keep their act together. One night he reminded Martin of what they had accomplished at a team and added, 'I love you.'
Martin gave him a cold stare and told him he was nothing to him but a dollar sign.
After their act broke up, Lewis went on to appear in Las Vegas and make movies. Martin made golden records and western films like 'Rio Bravo' with John Wayne. Both succeeded on their own, but their fans resented their breakup and never quite forgave them.

As the Years Passed

Toward the end of their careers, both performers became addicted to prescription drugs and alcohol. Martin teamed up with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and the Hollywood Rat Pack and made movies like 'Ocean's 1.'
The drinking and the drugs began taking their toll on both of them. Shortly before Dean Martin died, he met with Jerry Lewis for a final reunion. He was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease but he was lucid enough to tell Jerry he loved him.
The singer and the comic had come full circle.

On This Day In Dino-history: November 7, 1955

Hey pallies, likes STOP THE PRESSES!!!!!  Today is yet  'nother delightful day in all of Dino history for it  was on November 7 in the year of our Dino 1955 that that wacky wonderful Martin & Lewis big screen caper "Artists And Models" premiered, which we delightfully discovered when we lovin'ly landed at the new-to-ilovedinomartin blog pad, "GABORS GALORE,"

The beau-ti-ful blog "GABORS GALORE - All Things Gabor" is dedicated to "The Gabor sisters, Eva, Zsa Zsa, and Magda,  along with their mother, Jolie, we’re Hungarian -American celebrities and socialites known as much for their many marriages as for their careers."  Miss Eva was fabulously featured in "Artists And Models" as "the seductress spy."

Long time pallies at ilovedinomartin will perhaps remember that hands down, "Artists And Models" is our most fav of fav Martin and Lewis silver screen effort, in fact we likes to refer to it as "an almost perfect movie."  So this praiseworthy post brings us much delight to celebrate the day the flick was but into general release 62 years 'go yester-Dino-day!  With a little bit of powerful patter and two swank shots of our most beloved Dino with Miss Eva, what's not to like.

We thanks the pallies at "GABORS GALORE" for puttin' us on to yet 'nother dreamy date in the life, times, and teachin's of our Dino.  To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this particular Dino-post.  And, for your Dino-viewin' pleasure we include the youtube vid of the entire fabulous flick at the end of this post.!

OTD – Artists and Models Premieres

On November 7, 1955, the Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin film, Artists and Models, premiered.  The film also starts Shirley MacLaine and Dorothy Malone.
EG_ArtistsAndModelsPoster
The story revolves around a struggling painter (Martin) and his comic-book addict of a roommate who talks in his sleep (Lewis).  Martin’s character ends up writing a comic based on the stories that Lewis tells in his sleep.  Unfortunately, the stories include part of a secret formula our government has and that other governments want.  Eva Gabor plays the seductress spy sent to obtain the rest of the secret formula.
EG_DeanMartin_ArtistsAndModels_2
In the end, good prevails, Eva’s character is left tail up in a large flower pot, and Lewis and Martin get their girls (MacLaine and Malone).
The love story between the leads is predictable, but entertaining.  Lewis and MacLaine share a quirky dance on the stairs outside their apartment building.  The choreography is fresh and fun.  Lewis’s physical comedy is top rate. Martin sings several numbers in the film.  What a smooth voice he had.
I absolutely loved Edith Head’s costuming of this film, with the “bat girl” costume being my favorite.  Eva wears a beautiful blue dress when her character attempts to seduce Martin and Lewis.

She even gets a turn in the “bat girl” costume when her character kidnaps, then slips a mickey to Lewis’s character.

This is a fun film, with a solid cast.  You can find the film in the usual places, but it is not available via Amazon Prime at the time of this post.  Shop around for the bargain deal.

A Touchin' & Tender Tribute Offered By Our Dino At Mr. Frank Sinatra's Celebration Of Forty Years In Show Business.

Hey pallies, likes we were so so totally totally taken by yesterday's Dino-devotion accentin' that awesomely amazin' gift that our most beloved Dino and Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. presented to Mr. Frank Sinatra on the auspicious occasion of his 70th birthday, a 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible, that is goin' up on the auction block on November 17 & 18.  Well, likes that post got us to wonderin' if by chance youtube just might have a vid of a 70th Birthday party for Mr. Sinatra that just might feature our one and only Dino.

So, likes the search was on, but we weren't able to get any action on that search, but what we did find was 'nother occasion that our Dino had to hugely homage his pallie of pallies...the completely cool celebration of Mr. Frank Sinatra's 40 years in show business that occurred at Caesars Palace in December of 1979.  Wonderfully this extraordinary event was filmed and we discovered a brief vid at youtube that sweetly shares the touchin' 'n tender tribute that our Dino offered to Mr. Sinatra.

Likes it totally typical Dino, ever present Kent Cigarette in hand, celebratin' Mr. Sinatra with the establishment of the Frank Sinatra Student Fund at Hoboken (NJ) High School"so that some deservin' kid can stay in school and get the education" that Sinatra didn't have.  Next our Dino invites Frank up to the stage to receive an official diploma from Hoboken High. Then, for us, the most  memorable moment occurs when our deeply devoted  Dino,  knowin' that Sinatra never got to dance at a prom, gets his pallie of pallies to dance with him!  Likes watchin'  our Dino gently kiss Sinatra is so so mightily movin'.

So Dino-holics, even 'though we weren't able to share any filmed celebratin' of Mr. Sinatra's seventh decade, we gotta 'fess up that we feel that we were lovin'ly led to uncover this vital vid givin' thrillin' testimony of the remarkable and reverent relationsip that our most beloved Dino had with his most beloved pallie, Mr. Frank Sinatra.

Tomorrow In Dino-history: November 3, 1964

Mr. Dearborn's lastest Dino-report is that tomorrow on November 3, in the year of our Dino 1964, our King of Cool recorded the swingin' song of awesome amore, "You'll Always Be The One I Love" at  United Recording Studios in Hollywood.  'though not one of our Dino's biggest hits it is our swinger Dino at his '60's best.  While doin' a little more Dino-researchin' we delightfully discovered the this cool croon found it's way on to our most beloved Dino's al-b-um, "DEAN MARTIN HITS AGAIN" released in 1965 on Reprise Records.

Frank Sinatra's 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible for auction

OVERVIEW
Guide price: £105000 - £125000.  Imported into the US by Rolls-Royce Motors Inc., New Jersey on 13th November 1984 Presented to Frank for his 70th birthday by Dean and Sammy - the pillars of the 'Rat Pack'Frank gifted the car to his assistant Ingemar Fredriksson in 1990 to mark 10 years of serviceAfter Frank's death in 1998, Ingemar moved to Spain and sold the car to our vendor in 2001 The signed provenance record by Ingemar's daughter confirms this remarkable story With an odometer reading of 66,550 miles the car benefits from recent expenditure of some £47,000An unrepeatable opportunity to buy a motor car that was gifted out of love and loyalty.Although much can be said of the Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible we presume you may have heard it all before. We, therefore, have the pleasure of presenting you with the incredible story of this car, told for the first time.Throughout Frank Sinatra’s life, his kindness, his generosity, and appreciation of loyalty were legendary, so it was no surprise his friends showered him with extravagant gifts and threw parties to mark his 70th year in 1985. The President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, threw a party at the White House and his two closest friends, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. decided to buy Frank a special gift. The Corniche landed on American soil at New Jersey, imported by Rolls-Royce Motors Inc. on the 21st November 1984. The copy build records show the car was ordered in Mason Black (95007010) coachwork, Everflex power-hood, Red leather (VM3086) and rear picnic tables, very rare for a Corniche Convertible. The records also show that "cocktail requisites" were specified for both doors, naturally. It is not known whether Dean and Sammy ordered the car specifically or found it for sale at the dealership as Frank’s birthday wasn’t until 15th December 1985. Nevertheless, the car glided up the driveway of Frank’s Palm Springs home a few weeks after his 70th birthday. Unbeknownst to Dean and Sammy a second Corniche, in white, was also gifted by Frank’s record company, and that car was used by his wife Barbara. Frank Sinatra inspired loyalty and friendship among those he trusted and none more so than his long-term assistant Ingemar Fredriksson. In 1970, Ingemar, his wife, daughter Sibylla and son, were in an apartment owned by Sinatra on the Upper East Side, as Ingemar looked after Frank's New York interests. Throughout the 1970s, Ingemar and Frank enjoyed many memorable times together, visits to the White House and parties with Elvis at Graceland. Eventually, in 1980 Ingemar took a full-time offer of work from Frank, to be his assistant, working from his Palm Springs home. In 1990, to mark ten years of friendship and loyal service, Frank gifted the car to Ingemar, who used it for daily commuting until his retirement in 1997 and remained friends with Frank until his death a year later in 1998. Returning to Europe in 2001, Ingemar eschewed his native Sweden and settled in southern Spain, taking the Rolls with him. Whilst buying a property from our vendor there the Corniche was accepted as part payment. The car remained in storage until it was brought to the UK and our vendor retained the services of Performance and Prestige Cars Ltd., of Oxford, Marques Prestige Car Services, Bedford, and the Rolls and Bentley specialists Colbrook of Peterborough to carry out an extensive programme of recommissioning works. The incredibly detailed invoices dating between 2015 and 2017 show the lengths to which our vendor would go to present the car just the way it should be. The works were sympathetic to the car’s history and only conducted to preserve the integrity of the car’s features such as re-finishing of the wooden door cappings and touching up of the paint in places. Most of the work was mechanical however and related to the engine, suspension and braking system. The final total for these works came to some £47,000 and is a testament to our vendor’s dedication to preserving a car linked to the most iconic figures among film and music of the 20th century. Registered in the UK on 1st July 2017 the car will be issued with a fresh MoT Certificate to be carried out at some 66,500 miles. The aforementioned provenance record, signed and dated 18th September 2018 by Sibylla, Ingemar’s daughter and witness to the car’s unique ownership, is included in the history file together with the detailed invoices. We can provide electronic copies of the provenance and invoices via email to any interested party prior to the sale. The story is told in greater detail on the dedicated third party website www.theratpackcorniche.com
