Olivia Hussey recalls controversial 'Romeo and Juliet' role at 16, reveals personal tragedies

By Stephanie Nolasco | Fox News

In the book, Hussey alleged she became pregnant, but ended up having an abortion, a decision that broke her heart, but one she didn’t regret. She found comfort in the arms of her friend Dean Paul Martin, the son of Dean Martin. They married in 1971 and had one son Alex, now 45.

“When we met, I was 16,” recalled Hussey. “He came to London to see ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ He introduced himself to me… We became best friends. I started to fall in love with him after that whole tragedy... I realized that I loved him all along. “

Hussey said she found happiness with the Martin family. Dean Sr., in particular, never failed to make her laugh. While Hussey and Dean Paul split in 1979, they remained close friends until his tragic death in a plane crash in 1987 at age 35.

Ed's Epistle: NEW Dino Boook...Side By Side: Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis On TV and Radio

Hey Pallies! Long time no post! Mr. DMP is correct as I'm in full time dad mode, and all time husband mode over the past 6 years or so. But I do check this swank Dino-site most all the time baby!

I just wanted to drop a line to notify the best Dino-blog in the webs regarding what I just found out today. A new book!
Side By Side: Dean Marting & Jerry Lewis on TV and Radio
Weighing in at 514 pages and listed price at $29.95!!

“A treasure trove for any fan of Dean and Jerry, packed with valuable information, behind-the-scenes stories, and a dizzying array of rare photos. I couldn’t put this book down!”
– Leonard Maltin

Michael J. Hayde is the author of My Name’s Friday: The Unauthorized But True Story of Dragnet and the Films of Jack Webb, Chaplin’s Vintage Year: The History of the Mutual-Chaplin Specials and Flights of Fantasy: The Unauthorized but True Story of Radio & TV’s Adventures of Superman.

 Overview:
"Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis were the most successful comedy team of the 20th century, but if you've only seen them in movies, you haven't really seen them.

For years their only legacy was 16 starring films that shoehorned them into predictable situations far removed from the mutual affection and uninhibited slapstick that captivated audiences. That changed when their starring appearances on The Colgate Comedy Hour were released to home video. Fans of old-time radio have also discovered their fine work in that medium. Television and radio gave the team freedom to improvise, as well as showcase favorite night club routines.
More than a chronicle of classic comedy, Side By Side tells the Martin & Lewis story: two friends whose individual ambitions gradually drove a wedge between them that carried into their work. It recounts in detail their legendary feuds and final split, and equally legendary reunions."

Hussey and her first husband Dino Martin.
Hussey and her first husband, Dean Martin’s son Dino.

That memory is half hers, half her eldest son Alex Martin’s, who co-wrote the chapters that Hussey couldn’t bring herself to type. The hardest concerned the death in 1987 of her first husband, Dino Martin, who flew from LA to Britain to beg her for a date. She said no. But a year later, Hussey moved to California, and eventually said yes.

Hussey found herself at the centre of a celebrity shift. Dino was the eldest son of the Rat Pack’s Dean Martin. Dinner at the in-laws meant meeting everyone from Sammy Davis Jr and Truman Capote to Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Meanwhile, Dino surprised his bride by bringing the Bee Gees home for dinner. She answered the door in her pyjamas.

 I've found myself babblin'...on & on...incoherently...all week!

Maybe my brain is gettin' a wee bit toasted, pals! Haha!!
 Actually...pickeled would be more appropriate!
Ha!

OK...'nough foolishness.

Let's talk a little bit 'bout what WAS & let's get to the Dino-tunes!

Now, pallies...I simply HAD to use this week's COOL COOL Dino-jam for today's Serenade!

It's been on my mind for a few weeks, now.

Today, August 5th, marks the very unpleasant anniversary of the passin' of a very special lady...a very special girl-pallie of our Dino's.

 Marilyn Monroe.

It's been 56 years since she took her final bow.

Shame, pals.
Was a fun & talented young soul.

But...I believe in celebratin' what WAS...rather than cryin' over what WASN'T.

"Buttercup A Golden Hair" is set to her & our pals flick, that never came to be..."Something's Got to Give".

It featured Dino alongside a very lovely & naked Marilyn!
Haha!!
 Fresh!

Looks like it would have been a FUN FUN Dino-flick for sure!

Such a shame it just wasn't meant to be, my friends.
They both looked so good in this vid & youse could see the chemistry & friendship they shared.

Bittersweet to watch, pallies.

BUT...let's be thankful for what's we got, pals!
A Great Great tune & vid that's PERFECTO for a Great Great Summer night!

 R.I.P MM.
 Hope your STILL bein' fresh!

  Enjoy!

Romeo & Juliet actress Olivia Hussey reveals mortifying moment in front of the Queen and how Dean Martin's son Dino threatened to have a lover 'killed' after he beat her to a pulp, raped her and got her pregnant in new memoir

By CAROLINE HOWE FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

She met Dino Martin, son of singer Dean Martin and his wife Jeanne. Dino was considered a golden boy, nonchalant about his famous family.

Dino romanced Olivia, took her to all the famous Hollywood restaurants, introduced her to stars and his best friend, Desi Arnaz, Jr., son of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

Hussey married Dean Martin's son Dino Martin in 1971

Hussey married Dean Martin's son Dino Martin in 1971.

The marriage ended seven years later after she realized Martin had cheated on her while she was pregnant. Dino died in 1987

The marriage ended seven years later after she realized Martin had cheated on her while she was pregnant. Dino died in 1987

Rudy loved smoking dope and Olivia joined him becoming more paranoid throughout the day. Dino would join them and they'd head off to satisfy their munchies.

But then some dark sinister force brought Christopher Jones into her bedroom one night at Cielo Drive.  Hussey thought one of Rudy's dogs had pushed open the door but then the door closed.
Jones was hallucinating and hearing voices, twitching while whispering sweetly but incoherently and then he was suddenly punching and beating Olivia for an hour 'all the while grinding his teeth and snarling, his spittle spraying me', she writes. 'Then he raped me'.  It was all over at 5.30 in the morning and Olivia's blood covered the sheets and pillows.  'In some way, I had always know that it would come to this; that it was only a matter of time before the dam broke and all of Chris's anger washed over me', writes Hussey.

She called Dino whose first words were 'I'm going to have him killed'.

Dino had been there to support Olivia throughout her ordeal and she fell in love with him.

'Out of that horror came some of the brightest, happiest days of my life. I was very much in love', writes Hussey. She also adored Dino's family.

They tied the knot in Vegas and Olivia was so into the marriage, she even learned to cook.

When Desi Jr. started dating Liza Minelli, she and Olivia became close friends as well as the godmother of Olivia's first child.

The two couples spent a lot of time together, flying to Vegas and back the same night, getting tipsy on Saturday nights at Madeo's, a hot Beverly Hills restaurant, and Sunday morning hitting tennis balls to dispel hangovers.

She and Dino had a beautiful baby boy, Alexander Gunther Martin but the marriage turned out to be a flop, as did the film.

Dino had begun cheating on her when Olivia was seven months pregnant.

'A light had gone out and we both knew it. If we'd been older, perhaps we'd have gone to counseling,' she writes.

The glory days were over. Dino was arrested for an illegal gun collection. They sold their house, split the money and went their separate ways.

Olde Fashioned Sunday kicks off 61st Yankee Homecoming

By Dave Rogers drogers@newburyportnews.com   Jul 30, 2018 Updated Jul 30, 2018

NEWBURYPORT – As hundreds of young children and their parents milled around the Bartlet Mall during Olde Fashioned Sunday, they did so listening to old tunes by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Jimmy Buffett.

They were all sung by crooner James Cate of Seabrook, New Hampshire, who was not just entertaining the crowd, but conducting a sound check for Yankee Homecoming’s opening ceremony.

After finishing his set/soundcheck, Cate admitted that while he loved “Old Blue Eyes,” he’s grown particularly fond of another member of the Rat Pack.

“Lately, I’ve been gravitating to Dean Martin,” Cate said.

"but the thing about Bryan Ferry was always the voice, that voice, slightly slurred, a touch of velvet filtered through a thousand cigarettes, a nod to Dean Martin. He has a way of communicating a song like you were the only person in the audience."  If that don't sweetly sound likes deeper then deep Dino-emulation, we don't know what does pallies.  Likes we checks out youtube and youse can find a ton of vids showcasin' Mr. Ferry's tremendous talents in singin' to decide for yourselves.

We thanks Mr. Eoin Meegan and the pallies at "NEWSFOUR" for these wonderful words 'bout Irish artist Mr. Bryan Ferry and likes, of course, a remarkable reference to our one and only DINO!  To checks this out in it's original source, and likes to read it in total, per usual, simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-gram.

Ferry Rocks Dublin

By Eoin Meegan

A welcome innovation in Dublin this summer was the Trinity College Summer Series which included such headline acts as Imelda May and Grace Jones. But without doubt the main attraction of the series was the Friday night sellout gig by one time Roxy front man and solo artist Bryan Ferry.

The lounge lizard didn’t disappoint and for the entire 90 minutes he was on stage he belted out a string of hits and Ferry classics. When it comes to transmitting intimacy Ferry is hard to beat. A great songwriter and musician, and one time experimental electronic pop maestro but the thing about Bryan Ferry was always the voice, that voice, slightly slurred, a touch of velvet filtered through a thousand cigarettes, a nod to Dean Martin. He has a way of communicating a song like you were the only person in the audience.
