Today we goes the the Spanish blog "LA GRAW PANTALLA," which translates to "THE BIG SCREEN." Likes as youse can probably guess, it's a blog devoted to the cinema and is scribed by Miss Beatriz Clemente Ibanez.
"Clemente," as Ibanez likes to be known as is clearly a deeper then deep devotee of our most beloved Dino's most beloved partner Mr. Jerry Lewis and in the post below tagged "MY DEAR JERRY LEWIS," she reviews Lewis' life, as a tribute on his passin' from our presence earlier this fall.
Well, a huge huge portion of Mr. Lewis' career, and might we add success, was due to his decade long closer then close friendship and powerfully potent partnership with our most most beloved Dino!
So, today we shares with all youse Dino-holics the swanks section of Miss Clemente's post that accents the Martin & Lewis years with prolific prose and incredible images of our Dino and Mr, Lewis. You made your number with a pre-recorded sound before two hundred tables and thirty clients. Behind you acted a singer that the owner was thinking of replacing another. Well, the rest is history.
Your tremendous success on stage took you directly to Hollywood, debuting on the big screen, both Dean and you, in 1949 with " Mi amiga Irma ". You filmed a 16-minute short film that same year: " How to smuggle the hernia across the border ", not released commercially, written by you and by Don McGuire and directed by you, which was played by Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh ... and for you, in a double role: as an American Indian and as an army officer. It was filmed in your home and is considered your first filming as a director.
The following year, you returned to give life to Seymour in " My friend Irma goes to the West ", directed this time by Hal Walker and sharing a new poster with Marie Wilson and Dean Martin.
They arrived after you for " The milkman ", along with Donald O'Connor, Jimmy Durante and Piper Laurie ...
... and " At war with the Army ", in the role of Alvin Korwin and once again with Dean Martin.
Already in 1951 you also filmed with Dean " That's my boy " and " The crazy singer " ...

Hey pallies, likes today we celebrate our Dino with Dino-pixs and Dino-croons from the evocatively tagged blog "VINYL & VINES - MUSIC WINE and ???" Likes the unknown blogger has served up a mighty mix of a trio of images of our Dino (two with his powerful pallie Mr. Frank Sinatra) 'long with a trio of youtube vid clips of three of Dino's swank standards.
We find ourselves incredibly intrigued by this Dino-diggin' blogger and two of what we consider his provocative pontifications: (1) declarin' that "VOLARE" is our "Dino’s Most Famous Song," and (2) that “YOU’RE NOBODY TILL SOMEBODY LOVES YOU” is our Dino's "Second Most FAMOUS HIT SONG." While we, of Dino course loves dem Dino-croons, we would not name 'em "most famous" and "second most famous" in our Dino-book. We woulda loves to be able to dialogue with pallie to seek understandin' for his highest rankin' of these two Dino-tunes.

Hey pallies, likes we were so swankly solemnly smitten by yester-Dino-day's Dino-devotion from our newest Dino-delighted pallie, Brazilian Mr. Adilson de Carvalho Santos, whose home pad is tagged "BlogCineonline - The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land!" that we simply had to checks out Santo's site for other possible Dino-inspiration. And, pallies we found it in the form of a reverent review of what happens to be our fav of fav Dino 'n Jerry flick, the 1955 big screen release, "Artists & Models," which we are proclaimed before here at ilovedinomartin as an almost perfect film.
Scribed in late October 2015, Adilson's review shares a quartet of incredible images, an image of one of the original theatre poster designs, and a vid clip of Miss Shirley MacLaine singin' the classic "Innamorata." Mr. Santos seems to digs this fantastic flick as much as other Dino-holics likes youse and we do, and that makes our Dino-hearts rejoice! We are particularly pleased to see Adilson address some of the controversies 'round the readin' of comic books in the '50s not only in the US, but also in his home turf of Brazil as well.
Likes while Mr. Santos doesn't share a ton of appreciato for our Dino, or for that matter an of the other actors and actresses in "Artists & Models," his ravin' review ought to give this classic caper of the big screen the mucho more attention that it richly deserves. REVISITED CLASSIC: 0S 60 YEARS OF "ARTISTS & MODELS"
I was raised by the electronic babysitter, Tv and had the pleasure of spending long afternoons watching movies starring the duo Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis. Two of them in particular have now completed exactly 60 years of its accomplishment. First let's talk about the best of them, directed by Frank Tashlin and approaching the world of comics. " Artists & Models " (Artists & Models) was the first of several collaborations between Lewis and the director, who was an animator of drawings and therefore had essential experience for a film that speaks of imagery.
Rick Todd (Martin) is a talent painter but he earns his living on billboards until he loses his job because his partner, the dreamer Eugene Fullstack, only thinks about reading comic books, especially the magazines of his favorite character, the Bat Woman. When the pair decide to apply for a job at the Murdock publishing house, which publishes the Bat Woman comic books, the duo are unaware at first that the artist who draws the heroine, Abigail Parker (Dorothy Malone) is her neighbor and shares the apartment with Bessie Sparrowbush, Mr. Murdock's secretary (Eddie Mayehoff) and, in his spare time, the Bat Woman model, or Bat-Lady in the original. Needless to say, the purposeful reference of the character. Just as Rick falls in love with Abigail, Bessie falls in love with Eugene, but this one does not give much ball simply because it only thinks about Bat Woman and does not recognize it without the clothes of the character. The film is very important because in the decade in which it was produced the comics had been surrounded by a strong controversy since the psychologist Dr. Fredric Wertham had published the book "The Seduction of the Innocents" in 1954. In it, Dr. Whittham accused the comics of being an evil example for the mentality of children and directly responsible for the increase in juvenile delinquency. The characters in the middle were pointed as examples of negative messages, and Batman had been one of the characters most attacked by the book. Wertham's book provoked a witch hunt that led publishers to close down, artists losing their jobs, and comic books (as popularly known in Brazil) were burned in the streets.
The screenplay of the film shows paranoia without taking a 100% target for or against the comic book, sometimes showing the character of Lewis as apathetic because of these, sometimes ridiculing the paranoia established in American society of the time, which discussed the violence printed in the stories . Ironically, when Rick Todd gets his job, he is copying the nightmares that Eugene has every night out loud with the fictional character Vincent the Vulture (half man, half boy and half bird), far more bloody than the beautiful curves of the Woman-Bat . Everything could be even less confusing if Eugene, in his dreams, did not describe the formula for a secret fuel that actually exists, drawing the attention of the FBI and enemy agents. Tashlin manages to make a very fine transition between comedy of errors and action, exploring the verbal and non-verbal elements on the scene just as if we were actually reading a comic book, as in the sequence in which Martin & Lewis sing in a duet "When you pretend" where Lewis turns a table into a very fine piano or the moment in that an impassioned Shirley MacLaine descends the stairs singing the melodious "Innamoratta" to Jerry Lewis and showing all her talent as a dancer. The song, written for the film, was one of the greatest hits of the actor and singer Dean Martin. Lewis sing in a duet
When you pretend
Interestingly, in real life, Dean Martin is who was an admirer of Hqs who consumed as a child in Stubenville, Ohio, his hometown that in the movie is called Steubendale. Unlike the movie as well, it was Dean Martin who had a Love affair with Shirley, Jerry's romantic couple in the movie. According to the magazine "Screen Stage Magazine", which adapted the scripts of several films of the time, the budget of "Artists & Models" ($ 1,701,083) was higher than initially planned and an entire sequence was not even filmed near the end that would explain how Eugene would discover that his partner was making money by writing the stories of his nightmares that he spoke aloud in his sleep. Another imagined but never filmed sequence would bring a musical number for Woman - Bat. The film, the 14th of the duo Martin & Lewis, was a success originally released in the United States on November 7, 1955. The comic timing of the duo was at its peak, as well as the strong rumors that the duo were constantly disconcerting and would soon split up. The duo would do two more films before finally taking independent paths. Shirley MacLaine was in her second role, at age 21, and lavished talent for musical and comedy, which she would overcome in dramatic roles throughout a prolific career. A constant presence in the films of Jerry Lewis is the actress Kathleen Freeman, always stealing the scene in some sequence, as here in "Artists & Models" in which it interprets the landlady of Lewis, Mrs. Muldoon, always of face tied. Completing the cast two beauties: Anita Ekberg at one end as one of Rick Todd's former models. The beautiful Swedish actress was to star in the latest film of the duo Martin & Lewis "Or Goes Or Racha" as a romantic couple of Jerry. Already the role of villain was with Eva Gabor in the role of the spy Sonia who wants to seduce Eugene to steal the secret of the experimental fuel formula of the government.
It is unfortunate that such an inventive film, capable of appealing to as many adults as children, is rarely reprinted on TV. Worth noting is the excellent Brazilian dubbing: Nelson Batista is perfect to give the tone of "big child" in the persona of Jerry Lewis just as Marcos Miranda house his voice like a glove in the seductive figure of Dean Martin. Each one with a talent to extract humor and romance in the right measure, perfect and that justifies that the sum of the parts is greater than its components, although each one is a star of the size of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin.

Fui criado pela babá eletrônica, a Tv e tive o prazer de ter passado longas tardes assistindo filmes estrelados pela dupla Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis. Dois deles em especial completaram agora exatos 60 anos de sua realização. Primeiro vamos falar do melhor deles, dirigido por Frank Tashlin e que abordava o mundo das histórias em quadrinhos. “Artistas & Modelos” (Artists & Models) foi a primeira de várias colaborações entre Lewis e o diretor, que foi animador de desenhos e, portanto, tinha experiência essencial para um filme que fala de imagi – nação.
Rick Todd (Martin) é pintor de talento mas ganha a vida com outdoors de propaganda até perder o emprego porque seu parceiro, o sonhador Eugene Fullstack só pensa em ler histórias em quadrinhos, especialmente as revistas da sua personagem favorita, a Mulher Morcego. Quando a dupla decide pedir emprego na editora Murdock, a mesma que publica as revistinhas da Mulher Morcego, a dupla desconhece, a principio, que a artista que desenha a heroína, Abigail Parker (Dorothy Malone) é sua vizinha e divide o apartamento com Bessie Sparrowbush, secretária do Sr.Murdock (Eddie Mayehoff) e, nas horas vagas, a modelo da Mulher-Morcego, ou Bat-Lady no original. Desnecessário dizer a proposital referência da personagem. Da mesma forma que Rick se apaixona por Abigail, Bessie se apaixona por Eugene, mas este não dá muita bola simplesmente porque só pensa na Mulher Morcego e não a reconhece sem a roupa da personagem. O filme é muito importante pois na década em que foi produzido as histórias em quadrinhos viviam cercada de forte polêmica desde que o psicólogo Dr.Fredric Wertham publicara o livro “A Sedução dos Inocentes” em 1954. Nele, o Dr.Wertham acusava as HQs de serem um exemplo maligno para a mentalidade das crianças e responsável direta pelo aumento da deliquência juvenil. Os personagens do meio eram apontados como exemplos de mensagens negativas, e o Batman havia sido um dos personagens mais atacados pelo livro. O livro de Wertham provocou uma caça às bruxas que levou editoras a fecharem, artistas a perderem o emprego e gibis (como conhecidas popularmente no Brasil) eram queimados nas ruas.
O roteiro do filme mostra a paranoia sem tomar um direcionamento 100% a favor ou contra as HQs, ora mostrando o personagem de Lewis como apatetado por causa destas, ora ridicularizando a paranoia instaurada na sociedade americana da época, que discutia a violência impressa nas histórias. Ironicamente, quando Rick Todd consegue o emprego é justamente copiando os pesadelos que Eugene tem toda noite em voz alta com o personagem fictício Vincent o Abutre (meio homem, meio garoto e meio pássaro), bem mais sangrento que as belas curvas da Mulher-Morcego. Tudo poderia ser ainda menos confuso se Eugene, em seus sonhos, não descrevesse a formula de um combustível secreto que realmente existe, atraindo a atenção do FBI e de agentes inimigos. Tashlin consegue fazer uma afinadíssima transição entre comédia de erros e ação, explorando os elementos verbais e não verbais em cena tal como se estivéssemos de fato lendo uma história em quadrinhos, como na sequência em que Martin & Lewis cantam em dueto “When you pretend” onde Lewis transforma uma mesa em um afinadíssimo piano ou o momento em que uma apaixonada Shirley MacLaine desce as escadas cantando a melodiosa “Innamoratta” para Jerry Lewis e mostrando todo seu talento de bailarina. A canção, escrita para o filme, foi um dos maiores sucessos do ator e cantor Dean Martin.
Curiosamente, na vida real, Dean Martin é quem era admirador de Hqs que consumia quando criança em Stubenville, Ohio, sua cidade natal que no filme é chamada de Steubendale. Shirley MacLaine estava em seu segundo papel, aos 21 anos, e esbanjou talento para o musical e a comédia, o que iria superar em papeis dramáticos ao longo de uma carreira prolífica. Uma presença constante nos filmes de Jerry Lewis é a atriz Kathleen Freeman, sempre roubando a cena em alguma sequência, como aqui em “Artistas & Modelos” em que interpreta a senhoria de Lewis, a Sra Muldoon, sempre de cara amarrada. Lamentável que um filme tão inventivo, capaz de agradar tantos adultos quanto crianças raramente seja reprisado na TV. Digno de nota é a excelente dublagem brasileira: Nelson Batista é perfeito para dar o tom de “criança grande” na persona de Jerry Lewis assim como Marcos Miranda casa sua voz como uma luva na figura sedutora de Dean Martin. Cada um com um talento para extrair humor e romance na medida certa, perfeita e que justifica que a soma das partes é maior que seus componentes, ainda que cada um seja uma estrela do porte de Jerry Lewis e Dean Martin.

Hey pallies, likes STOP THE PRESSES!!!!! Yesterday was 'nother delightful day in all of Dino history and we didn't discover it 'til few moments 'go while doin' our almost daily Dino-search usin' the great great search site "Twingly Advanced Blog Search" we lovin'ly landed at the new-to-ilovedinomartin blog pad, "GABORS GALORE," where we learned that it was on November 7 in the year of our Dino that that wacky wonderful Martin & Lewis big screen caper "Artists And Models" premiered.
The beau-ti-ful blog "GABORS GALORE - All Things Gabor" is dedicated to "The Gabor sisters, Eva, Zsa Zsa, and Magda, along with their mother, Jolie, we’re Hungarian -American celebrities and socialites known as much for their many marriages as for their careers." Miss Eva was fabulously featured in "Artists And Models" as "the seductress spy."
Long time pallies at ilovedinomartin will perhaps remember that hands down, "Artists And Models" is our most fav of fav Martin and Lewis silver screen effort, in fact we likes to refer to it as "an almost perfect movie." So this praiseworthy post brings us much delight to celebrate the day the flick was but into general release 62 years 'go yester-Dino-day! With a little bit of powerful patter and two swank shots of our most beloved Dino with Miss Eva, what's not to like.
We thanks the pallies at "GABORS GALORE" for puttin' us on to yet 'nother dreamy date in the life, times, and teachin's of our Dino. And, cooler then cool on the 'morrow we return to our pallie, Brazilian blogger, Mr. Adilson de Carvalho Santos at "BlogCineonline," who our other post features this Dino-day, for guess what?!?!?!?! His remarkable review of none other then "Artists And Models!." It is keenly kismet pallies!

On November 7, 1955, the Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin film, Artists and Models, premiered. The film also starts Shirley MacLaine and Dorothy Malone.
The story revolves around a struggling painter (Martin) and his comic-book addict of a roommate who talks in his sleep (Lewis). Martin’s character ends up writing a comic based on the stories that Lewis tells in his sleep. Unfortunately, the stories include part of a secret formula our government has and that other governments want. Eva Gabor plays the seductress spy sent to obtain the rest of the secret formula.
In the end, good prevails, Eva’s character is left tail up in a large flower pot, and Lewis and Martin get their girls (MacLaine and Malone).
The love story between the leads is predictable, but entertaining. Lewis and MacLaine share a quirky dance on the stairs outside their apartment building. The choreography is fresh and fun. Lewis’s physical comedy is top rate. Martin sings several numbers in the film. What a smooth voice he had.
I absolutely loved Edith Head’s costuming of this film, with the “bat girl” costume being my favorite. Eva wears a beautiful blue dress when her character attempts to seduce Martin and Lewis.
She even gets a turn in the “bat girl” costume when her character kidnaps, then slips a mickey to Lewis’s character.
This is a fun film, with a solid cast. You can find the film in the usual places, but it is not available via Amazon Prime at the time of this post. Shop around for the bargain deal.
