a towel boy at Ligonier Beach?
That's what Tina Sykes is reporting in the Ligonier Echo this week.
Tina has another great article on the front page, this one delving into the history of the local landmark, Ligonier Beach, which turns 83 today, July 4th.
Tina says:
When Nick Gallo opened the pool with its man-made sand beach and a dance pavilion in the mid 1920s, it soon became a famous summer hangout for fans of big-band music. In fact, before becoming famous under the name Dean Martin, Dino Crocetti performed there. At one time Martin was a towel boy at the beach, where he began to sing along with the bands. Perry Como also sang at the beach.
