Dean Martin Interview 1984 with Randi Oakes

Image result for Randi Oakes dean martin

Hey pallies, likes we are always powerfully pleased when fellow Dino-devotees share delightful Dino-finds with us to share with the larger world of Dino-holics.  We absolutely appreciate all the help we can get to uncover and share the many and varied ways that the life, times, and teachin's of our Dino are bein' shared all over the world wide web.

Likes today we are greatly grateful to our pallie Miss AOW(Always On Watch) who has been
perfectly passionate 'bout our most beloved Dino since her youth, and is also a commentator on the political scene at her blog you can locate by clickin'  HERE.  A few days 'go Miss AOW emailed us a youtube link to  a live interview that model and actress Miss Randi Oakes in 1984.

We are absolutely always totally totally thrilled to drink in each and every word of our Dino's teachin's in these quite rare glorious glimpses of the man known as our King of Cool.  And, this interview in no exception dudes.

Dino, ever present Kent Cigarette in hand,  begins his cool comments by proudly proclaimin' that "'Vegas is the place! Love it!"....and then he launches into one of his randiest (likes, pun intended pallies!) of randy jokes. Randi then has our Dino comment on his break up with his partner Jerry Lewis, where our Dino wisely comments, "I had to.  I was tired of doin' the same thin' with Jerry."

The conversation then moves to our Dino's powerful performance in "The Young Lions" and his closer then close relationship with co-star Montgomery Clift.  Dino speaks of his love for Monty by proclaimin' "I loved his so much 'cause he was so helpless and nobody else paid attention to him...nobody.  I loved him very much."  Then Randi moves to interview to focus on our Dino's drinkin' and he says, "I couldn't have stayed in this business for fifty years if I drank as much as people say I drink."

The interview closes with our Dino and Randi playin' a game of pool together, and you'll have to watch to see who wins.  Interspersed with the interview are a few great moments of our Dino croonin' some of his most famous tunes as well as other thoughts on our great man.  The folks who produced this intriguin' interview have been able to pack a lot of great stuff into a little more then six minutes.

We gotta 'fess up that the thin' that touched us most deeply was our most beloved Dino speakin' from his huge heart 'bout his love for Montgomery Clift.  This fact has been well documented in other places on the web, but to hear our Dino speak so openly 'bout his love for Clift truly warms our Dino-heart!

We thanks Miss AOW for pointin' us in the direction of this vibrant video of Miss Randi Oakes doin' this warm, wisely wonderful interview with our wise wonderful Dino!

Our Dino O'Martin Croonin' "Irish Lullaby" On This Wearin' Of The Green Day 21017

Hey pallies, likes top of the mornin' to Dino-holics every which way on this Day Of The Wearin' Of The Green.  On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, everybody is Irish for at least one day of the year, and likes  continuin' our long standin' proud Paddy pallie practice here at ilovedinomartin, we once 'gain shares with all youse sold-out-to-Dino devotees our most beloved Dino O'Martin singin' his version of "Irish Lullaby" to Mr. Jerry Lewis.

This is indeed our most fav moment from the Martin and Lewis big screen epic "At War With The Army."  While we gotta 'fess up that "AWWTA" is our least fav of the Martin and Lewis flicks, we have powerfully  pure passion for this most touchin' and tender moment of screen magic. Our  Dino's hugely heartfelt rendition of "Irish Lullaby" brings such joy to our heart as he sings it in the most wondrous winsome  way.   The music box background music is perfect for this genuinely gentle Dino-croon.

Our Dino's partner, Mr. Jerry Lewis, turns 91 today

Hey pallies, likes today is the 91st birthday of our most beloved Dino's most beloved partner in comedy, Mr. Jerry Lewis.  Mr. Lewis entered the world on March 16, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey with the name Joseph Levitch.  We sincerely wish Mr. Lewis the happiest of happy birthdays .

Likes as many of you pallies knows,  for decades we had not been much of a fan of Mr. Lewis . But, likes after readin' the Mr. Lewis's touchin' and tender  tome on his relationship with our Dino: "Dean and Me: A Love Story," we' ve become aware of two thin's. One, the truth is that Mr.  Jerry Lewis always has, and always will love our beloved Dino. Two, the truth is no one ever has gotten closer to knowin' our Dino then Mr. Lewis durin' their ten year partnership of comedic joy.

Our Dino once in a live interview spoke of himself as a fatalist, and thus we believe he knew without a doubt that it was meant to be that he would meet up with and partner with Mr. Lewis in the early years of his career.  And, we believe that our Dino also knew without a doubt that he was meant to part ways with Mr. Lewis after a decade of stunnin' success.

Likes, it is obvious that Mr. Jerry Lewis absolutely adored our great great man.  Not that long 'go with Lewis was quired 'bout what he loved 'bout his partner, our Dino, Lewis replied "EVERYTHING!"  Well, we boldly believed that our Dino also truly loved Mr. Lewis, and today, on this 91st anniversary of Lewis' birthday we once 'gain are most perfectly proud to share a youtube vid of the Birthday Song that our Dino wrote and professionally recorded 'bout his remarkable relationship with Mr. Lewis on the occasion of Lewis' birthday in 1953.

As you listen to the song tagged "You Skinny Hebrew,"  you can really hear and feel our Dino's long lastin' love for his partner.....endin' the song with the absolutely awesome acclamation, "I love you Skinny Hebrew."  If you woulda likes to know more 'bout the recordin' of this song, click  HERE to read a post shared here at ilovedinomartin on February 5, 2010.

So, likes on this day of the anniversary of the birth of Mr. Jerry Lewis, ilovedinomartin wishes Mr. Lewis a happiest of happy birthdays and thanks him for lovin' on Dino likes all our Dino's other devoted fans does. And, likes on this day, ilovedinomartin shares with you this great pix of our Dino and the kid embracin' durin' a performance...and a clip of that greatest of great birthday presents that our Dino gave Jerry in 1953...the professionally recorded song that our Dino wrote for his partner, "You Skinny Hebrew"....our Dino's most personal of personal way of sharin' his awesome affection for Mr. Lewis.

"Love, showmanship, artist, mixed perfectly in this wonderful 7 odd minutes of  vocal elixir. The constructor of Cool Dino, and Smokey, together in their most famous of song duo, creating magic right in front of our ears."

Likes what a delightful Dino-gift from one of our delightful Dino-bros!  So, likes what we pattered Eddie-o, we mentioned that his latest extraordinary edition of "Ed's Epistle" remembered us of one of our fabulously fav marvelous moments of moments when our most beloved Dino and his most beloved pallie in Rats, Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. took the stage of the Dino-show and did a magnificant mix of melodies together.  In doin' a bit of research we can tells all youse Dino-holics that this vid is part of the episode that aired on January 17, 1970.

We spoke incorrectly in that patter that we believed that that vid was no longer up on youtube to our deep dismay.  Well, we just have to look once more, and there it was still there for our powerfully pleasurable Dino-viewin'!!!!!  So, we just had to create today's Dino-gram to correct our error in thought...that we most regret, and to set the Dino-record straight.  So, here once 'gain at ilovedinomartin is those majestic moments of our Dino and Mr. Davis creatin' musical magic together!

Likes we  gotta 'fess up to all youse Dino-philes that this vid always always brings us such huge huge happiness of the Dino-kind (and there is no greater happiness then Dino-happiness!)  'cause seein' our most beloved Dino so so happy to be makin' music with his Rat Pack pallie Sammy Davis Jr., makes us hugely hugely happy ourselves.  I'm not sure there is any other moment of the nine seasons of the Dino-show where our Dino has more fun then  this one!!!!!We hugely hope that this vid never ever leaves the  youtube stage!  And, likes thanks once 'gain to our Dino-bro Eddie-o for his swank sharin'!!!!!

In 2017.....we'll be publishing - in the centenary of his birth - a very personal biography of the iconic all-round entertainer, Dean Martin.

Hey pallies, likes a while back we received patter from Mr. Elliot Thorpe, the son of the late Mr. Bernard  Thorpe.  It was Bernard who began the Dean Martin Association in 1960 at our Dino's request, and likes this organization has had a remarkably rich history of spreadin' Dino-devotion 'round the known universe since then.  You can access our post recountin' the history of DMA right  HERE.

The patter from Bernard's son Elliot relates to  us that in this year of our Dino's centenary the younger Thorpe will be publishin' his father's biography of our Dino with the publisher bein' CHINBEARD BOOKS.  Likes below are the comments that Elliot left here at ilovedinomartin as well as the announcement of the comin' release of his father's Dino-bio at the CHINBEARD BOOKS site.  As you will note the tome will be tagged, "DEAN MARTIN - A PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY by Bernard H Thorpe."

Hi, Dino Martin Peters... I echo my sister Carole's comments regarding the kind comments you made a while back about our sadly missed father. And yes I can confirm she did indeed receive the doll from Mr Martin!
You may be interested to know that Bernard wrote a biography on Dino and that I have secured a publisher for the work. With his blessing before he passed away, I am pleased to say it will be published this year to coincide with Dino's centenary. Details can be found here: http://www.chinbeardbooks.com/new-beard (you may need to scroll down to the relevant release notification on the publisher's site). However, I will keep you updated with the release date (tbc). with best wishes.

It is with great delight that our furry little chinbeards can croon this announcement together! In 2017 (yes, we're scheduling that far in advance), we'll be publishing - in the centenary of his birth - a very personal biography of the iconic all-round entertainer, Dean Martin. Here's a little explanation from the author's son, Elliot Thorpe...

"...I am very very pleased to announce for 2017 from Chinbeard Books: DEAN MARTIN - A PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY by Bernard H Thorpe. As some of you know, my dad had tirelessly and proudly promoted Dino and his career since 1960, in the process gaining the privilege to call Dino a friend. Dino would have been 100 years old in 2017 and so this biography is in celebration of that and of the hard work my dad did for him for over 50 years. Sadly my dad died earlier this year so I hope I can do it justice by finishing what he started..."

We are very humbled, here at Chinbeard Books, that we can publish and promote this very personal tome.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis with wives Jeanne and Patti at the 1951 Academy Awards.

I play a track from the past, a Dean Martin song and miraculously, Dave starts to sing along,

Friends, ilovedinomartin takes on a much more somber tone this day as we share with you a short portion from the blog, "a life more complicated - Dementia – a personal journal of coping with a sufferer.  The blog author states the purpose of her writings in this way: "This is my impression of living with dementia, a world of fog, loss of insight and an overwhelming feeling of isolation. My husband and I have been coping with this for the last 5 – 6 years and these blogs are my attempt at explaining how this has affected us both."

Today we share the last paragraph from her March 9, 2017 post, "Still here," where she speaks of bringing in "some different music" for her husband to listen to, "partly because I wanted to see if he would respond differently."   And, the noteworthy news, in this most difficult situation health situation that this couple finds themselves in is that, as you will read below, her husband had an amazing response to hearing Dino's singing!  As you will note, the wife uses the term "miraculously" to her husband's reaction to hearing our Dino.

We have often spoke before of the transforming power of our Dino and today's posting is vital verification of that tremendous truth.  We thank the writer of "a life more complicated" for sharing this both heart wrenching as well as heartwarming story with her readership.  To read the whole blog post in it's original source, simply clicks on the title of today's sharing.

Life goes on, each visit much the same as the last. I took in some different music, partly because I was fed up with repeatedly hearing the same Carpenters CD urging everyone to sleep incessantly and partly because I wanted to see if he would respond differently. I play a track from the past, a Dean Martin song and miraculously, Dave starts to sing along, it really was strange to hear his voice after all this time. So I spent the whole of that visit singing to him and the carers were joining in, it was a blessed relief from the usual routine.

Mom, Did You….like Dean Martin?

Hey pallies, likes today we are perfectly pumped to share with you 'nother energetic entry of Dino-devotion with a touchin' twist to it.  From the blog "Nana's Whimsies - Musings of a Baby Boomer….," blogger Nana Kris in her post "Mom, Did You....Part 2," scribes 'bout questions that she wished she had asked her mother before she passed.

And, likes guess what pallies?......you guessed it folks, one of the quires that Miss Kris wishes she had inquired of her mother 'bout is indeed Dino-centric.  Miss Kris question is "Did you like Dean Martin?"  Likes, as you will read below, Kris believed that her Mom likes Dean Martin, while her sister Jen didn't. Neither sister knows for certain, 'cause the question never got asked.

Likes, why we absolutely appreciate this post is that of all the entertainers, all the singers that Miss Kris could wonder whether her mother loved, her wonderin' accents our most beloved Dino.  And, it is a great question for all us Dino-devotees to ask those nearest and dearest to us....a great way to begin a conversation 'bout our own absolute appreciation for our King of Cool.

Mom, Did You….Part 2

I am continuing contemplating things I wish I would have asked my mother. The moral of this (and yesterday’s) blog is: CHILDREN, ASK YOUR PARENTS QUESTIONS NOW.
Did you like Dean Martin?
Now this question is to address a disagreement that my sister Jen and I have had for years. She believes Mom loathed Dean Martin. I believe Mom liked Dean Martin. When we were young, Mom always had her radio turned on to K-F-A-B……in O-Ma-Ha! Trust me, the jingle is in my mind. Anyway, I remember her happily listening to songs such as Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime, and You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You. Further, I know she and Dad watched the Dean Martin variety show, and while she did get somewhat disgusted at his apparent drunkenness on stage, I still believe she liked him. So, Jen: Mom knows and God knows.

I’m not even sure how to explain my love of Dean Martin.

Hey pallies, likes ilovedinomartin loves to feature every type and stripe of Dino-devotion found on the ol' 'net, but faithful readers of this blog know that our most fav of fav Dino-sharin's are the coolest of cool combo of Dino-adulation accentin' the terrific tons of today's youth bein' drawn into the Dino-fold as well as the incredibly international nature of devoted  Dino-adulation.

Likes, once 'gain this very Dino-day we gets to shares with you yet 'nother touchin' 'n tender testimonal of awesome amore of our Dino from the blog tagged "JUSTSTORIESINTHEENDBLOG," where Miss Chelsea O'Connell holds forth.  Miss Chelsea describes herself as  "A 20 something nerd just trying to find her way in life and figure everything out."   By lookin' at the image of Miss O'Connell standin' outside a "Police Public Call Box," we woulda venture a guess that she hails somewhere from the British Isles.  Sorry that we couldn't get a better copy of her pix, but you can see a clear version  HERE.

Miss Chelsea's potent post, "Musical March: Everybody loves somebody," is a marvelous mixture of powerful prose and greast gif pixs 'long with a youtube vid of our most beloved Dino croonin'   "Volare"  and  "An Evening in Roma."  We loves readin' how she came to first know our Dino and how she has grown through the years in her Dino-delight....just the sort of wonderfully wise words that always always warms our Dino-hearts.

We solemnly salutes Miss Chelsea O'Connell and thank her ever so much for proudly proclaimin' "my love of Dean Martin.  We are sure her efforts will bring many more of today's youth into knowin', lovin' and honorin' our one and only Dino.  To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-gram.

Musical March: Everybody loves somebody

I mentioned last post that the music of the sixties was pretty great. Well I really meant that it’s kind of my favorite decade music wise and a little know secret of mine is my love for this man.
I’m not even sure how to explain my love of Dean Martin. I guess it kind of started with my mom’s love of Frank Sinatra and the amount of my childhood that was spent begrudgingly listening to him. (If it was her intention to brainwash me into liking him as well it worked, because I love him as well.) Then when she got this live album of the Rat Pack and I heard Dean the first time, I guess I was just so intrigued I got hooked.
I may have started this off talking about the sixties, but Dino’s been big since the 40’s and stayed on his smokey high until the very end. Yet, when one thinks of him they think most likely think of the late 50’s to early 60’s.
giphy7
So compared to other crooners and more specifically the other members of the Rat Pack, why Dean? Is it because of his roguish good looks, his charismatic stage presence or his hilarious antics? Yes, yes it is all of that. Yet it may be more so that he is Italian. Now you say, but so was Frank. Yes but Dean sang in Italian! (As I’m just now aware because I looked it up to make sure I wasn’t lying, Frank has sang songs with Italian in them, but they are no where near as popular as Dean’s songs)
Dean Martin was the first experience I’d had with bilingual music. I’d heard some older songs that had Spanish (namely La Bamba and Feliz Navidad) but they were just in Spanish and honestly I to this day have no idea what La Bamba is actually about. But what Dean did was mix Italian with English so that you had that exotic flare but still knew what the song was about. Honestly I believe that it may have contributed to my love of languages and my desire to learn as many as I possibly can before I kick the bucket.
ts2
One of my other favorite things about Dean is his relationship with the rest of the Rat Pack. It kind of reminds me of my relationship with my two best friends in which I’m definitely the Dean of the group. (Which is ironic because I’m the only one who doesn’t drink (Can one really be a sober Dean Martin) he’s the funny one, the one that always tries to make you laugh and feel better. ( I honestly can’t tell you who’s who with the other two but I’m sure it works out some way)
I love this smooth voiced, drunken Italian man for all of this and much more. To continue would take a lifetime and I only have a month. But whenever I’m feeling blue, Dean Martin will always be there to put a smile on my face.
Á bientôt

THAT DEAN MARTIN MAGIC

My Photo
Hey pallies, likes recently while tryin' to play catch up with a month or so of blog posts accentin' our most beloved Dino after bein' away for some time here at ilovedinomartin, we discovered  a fantastically fun potent post from the blog "Blue Sky Prose, And Stuff!," usin' the beautiful blog search engine, "Twingly Advanced Blog Search."  Likes the post "THAT DEAN MARTIN MAGIC" rang a bell with us and we discovered that we had shared it here before on July 21, 2015 and that it can be found  HERE in our ilovedinomartin archives.

That that time we musta thought that the scriber tagged "nigel-a was a she, but by the potent pose 'bove it is a he, and so right off the bat, ilovedinomartin expresses it regret for such an error.  We ain't sure how the error occured, but, of course, we accept full responsibility for the mistake and are pleased to be able to repost nigel-a's Dino-adulation in the from of "an interview ( which might have taken place in my dreams ) at the Sands, Las Vegas, in 1969."

Likes, likes what fun it is to read his marvelously magical "interview" with our main man.  We gotta 'fess up that he is likes better then us in doin' the Dino-lingo and we are gonna have to keeps tryin' to learn from nigel-a's effortless way of speakin' the Dino-language.   And, likes this repost returns   a fine variety of Dino-poses to awesomely accent his Dino-prose.

We always always  absolutely loves findin' and sharin' Dino-devotion that continues to show the internationale nature of Dino-passion, and as nigel-a hails from the United Kingdom this powerful post qualifies as bein' internationale!   Nigel-a's extraordinary efforts are so so coolly creative, makin for a real Dino-treat for Dino-philes everywhere!  We sez our deepest of deep Dino-thanks to Mr. nigel-a for boldly and beautifully professin' his awesome appreciato of our Dino with their readership.  To checks this out in it's original source, simply, as usual, clicks on the tag of this here Dino-gram.

THAT DEAN MARTIN MAGIC

Notes from an interview that I seem to remember having with Mr Dean Martin ( possibly only in my dreams ) at the Sands, Las Vegas, in 1969.

Tell me, Dean, may I call you Dean ? ...
Sure yuh can, kid, waddaya wanna know ?

... when you ran with the Pack why did you allow Sinatra to dominate the group when everyone could tell you had by far the strongest personality ?
Oh, don't yuh lissen to gossip, kid.  Frank was the King in them days.  I just hung around for the girls.  Gee, those gals ... legs goin' on for ever.  And, boy, could they drink !

But you fell out with him.  I read you refused to perform in a Chicago club where he had Mob connections.  Didn't Sinatra cut you dead for a long time afterwards ?

Now yuh shouldn't lissen to those stories, they ain't true.  But supposin' they were ... so what if Frank didn't ring me for six years, so what if the old bastard cut me dead in public.  Frank was the King, an we all wanned it that way.

One last question, Dean.  Do you believe Sinatra envied your considerable stage presence and that's why he favoured Sammy Davis ... that he felt more comfortable with Sammy paying him court than with you who wouldn't ?

Now that's an interesting thought. Wud yuh like a drink, kid ?  I think this could be a long evenin'.

  Psst.....Seamus, d'ye tink this story's true ?
Jaysus, Michael, how'd I  know.
But, Seamus, it could be true, couldn't it ?
Yes, an' I might be the King o' the Fairies !

Take this song to my lover
Shoo shoo little bird
Go and find my love

Cha cha cha d'amour
Serenade at her window
Shoo shoo little bird
Sing my song of love

Tell her I will wait
But if she names the date
Tell her that I care
More than I can bear

When we are apart
How it hurts my heart
So fly away oh fly away
And say I hope and pray
This lover's melody will bring her back to me

Cha cha cha d'amour
Take this song to my lover
Shoo shoo little bird
Go and find my love

Cha cha cha d'amour
Serenade at her window
Shoo shoo little bird
Sing my song of love
Shoo shoo little bird
Tell her of my love
