A Favorite Old Record Album
As the snow keeps falling in this month of March I am reminded of my mother and a 33rpm vinyl record album she played over and over again on a record player which was part of a fancy console complete with a radio featuring both AM & FM channels as well as a space to store albums.
She bought the massive console as a gift for the family or so she said when it was delivered days before Christmas one year when I was in Junior High School. Thinking back, I believe the main purpose of that console was for my mother to play a particular song from one of her favorite Dean Martin Christmas albums. The song was titled-“A Marshmallow World.” She played that song not only in December but all through the winter months. Each of us in that household knew every word, every pause in that song. We’d automatically sing along without even realizing it. My mother was a fanatic Saturday morning clean-the-house-thoroughly kind of person which meant I had to pitch in. Dean Martin made that torture go so much faster.

Hey pallies, likes the month of March was a the month for our most beloved Dino to officially break the ties with two of his wives. As reported a few days 'go, it was on March 23, 1949 that our Dino legally finished his marriage with wife numero uno, Elizabeth Anne McDonald. And, today is the anniversary of his legal partin' of the ways with wife numero duo. It was on March 29 in 1973 that our great man officially ended his marriage to Jeanne Biegger.
Dino has originally sought the divorce from Jeanne after he met, while playin' in 'Vegas baby 'Vegas, 21 year old Miss Gail Renshaw. Our most beloved Dino was stunnin'ly 'n swankly smitten by Renshaw, then servin' as Miss USA.
After 'bout six months that amore cooled, and at the point that our Dino's divorce was finalized, Miss Catherine Mae Hawn, a 24 year old beauty parlor receptionist was waitin' in the wings. Dino met Miss Hawn while makin' the scene clubbin' at that swankest of swank spot, The Candy Store Discotheque. Our Dino was engaged to Miss Hawn, who would become the third Mrs. Dean Martin less then a month after our Dino's divorce was finalized from Jeanne.
Likes we truly does find it so interestin' that on the same day of the month of March, but 20 years apart our Dino's richly romantically crooned "Return To Me" in 1953 and then in 1973 legally made it clear that he was not returnin' to Jeanne. Likes it is always, always so great to remind ourselves of all these important dates in the life and times of our most most beloved Dino!

Poetry by A. Dawn is featured for this week’s “The Obsequious Pen.” A. Dawn has been writing poetry since she was eleven-years-old, typing on her teal blue plastic typewriter. She is inspired by the seemingly mundane in life. Consequently, she feels poetry is a vehicle for condensing all of the random information in her brain into something solid, humorous, and sometimes beautiful.

..... and the unveiling of a Dean Martin statue.
Hey pallies, likes there's more 'citin' Dino-news from our Dino's playground 'Vegas baby 'Vegas. In the month February in the year of our Dino 2019, the month that ilovedinomartin has lovin'ly tagged Dino-amore, a new, swankest of swank statue of our most beloved Dino was unveiled at a golf course in Las Vegas with news of it reported at the 'net home pad of "LAS VEGAS NEWS-JOURNAL.
Scribed by Mr. Brian Hurlburt, this hugely heart warmin' Dino-tribute was recorded in the article below tagged "New Las Vegas Country Club owners embrace history, look to future." Likes as youse will read below the club has been under new ownership since 2017 and recently " re-introduced the private club during a media event that included " the unveiling of a Dean Martin statue. Seems that our Dino "played the course regularly in the early days" and these wise owners have seen fit to hugely homage our King of Cool with this tremendous tribute of a life sized statue of our most beloved Dino with golf club in hand.
Likes youse can read on the pertinent patter below, and on the morrow we will share 'nother Dino-gram that features less patter, but more images of our great great man includin' one that shares the wondrous words of Dino-adulation that appears on the plaque below the stunnin' statue of our Dino.

The Las Vegas Country Club was founded in 1967 by former Boston Celtics owner Marvin Kratter.
In 1970, a group of members led by Irwin Molasky, Moe Dalitz, Allard Roen and Merv Adelson bought the club and it remained member-owned until Dec. 30, 2017, when it was purchased by South Korea’s Samick Music Corporation, led by chairman J.S. Kim, a regular club guest for decades. Samick is a premier piano and guitar manufacturer.
Last Monday, the new owners re-introduced the private club during a media event that featured current Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman and former mayor Oscar Goodman, who previously were members. The festivities included the “mayors” receiving an honorary membership and the unveiling of a Dean Martin statue. The Rat Pack star played the course regularly in the early days.
Martin was invited to play by the mercurial Arthur Nightingale, the club’s first head professional, and routinely was part of a six some that included Las Vegas notables Tony Frabbiele, Bo Wininger, Don Cherry, Myron Friedman and Minny Cardillo.
“We believe the history of the Las Vegas Country Club is an asset,” club president and former Samick CEO Baik Lee said. “We had two goals when we purchased the club. One was to preserve and embrace the club’s history and the other was to modernize the facility and operations.”
The new owners have invested substantially in the club, and in a day and age when Las Vegas historic buildings and golf courses are imploded regularly, the course, indoor tennis pavilion and architecturally-unique clubhouse will remain.
A strict deed protects the golf course from development and many areas of the clubhouse were renovated including the locker rooms, kitchen and other behind-the-scenes and public areas.
LPGA teaching pro honored
Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Alexander was given the Ladies Professional Golf Association Teaching and Club Professional President’s Award during a ceremony held during the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in January. Alexander is a site director for the LPGA/USGA Girls Golf program and an instructor at Las Vegas Golf Club.
“To be honored is incredible,” Alexander said. “I was truly surprised. I love being an LPGA TCP member. We have so many talented members who continually inspire me.”

That is the kind of talent Dino had.
Three times in month of April, in the year of our Dino 2016, we sweetly shared a trio of delightfully Dino-centric posts from Mr. Frame, who you can peruse by clickin' HERE. A few 'go Mr. Frame contacted us via email to let us know that he has recently put up 'nother coolly creative post on our Dino's al-b-um "Dean “Tex” Martin- Country Style." Likes we were marvelously moved that James would remember our efforts on sharin' his wonderful work to personally let us know of more of his deep Dino-devotion.
And, likes not only that, but "Frame" as he refers to himself let us know that he has given our little Dino-waterin' hole a swank shout out as part of the post as youse will note below...."On a side note, I got in contact with a fellow blogger on the last Dean Martin record I posted (which due to high prices and general unavailability of cheap Martin records was a long time ago). Therefore, I am finally returning the favor with a shout out to the I Love Dino Martin blog. If you are a fan of Martin, you should check this blog out.
We surely want all youse Dino-philes to greatly glory in "Frame's" wise words yourselves, but we wanta accent just a few of this incredible insights....
"There are artists who transcend genres and Dino is certainly one such singer."
" He (Dino) does not bend to these songs. Instead, these songs mold around him. That is the kind of talent Dino had."
We sez our total total thank you very much! to Mr. James Frame for once 'gain honorin' our Dino and

Dean “Tex” Martin- Country Style
We have been doing country music for half of March and this week, we have been featuring country records from non-country artists. In this is an artist that I could not pass up. I paid $5 for this. On a side note, I got in contact with a fellow blogger on the last Dean Martin record I posted (which due to high prices and general unavailability of cheap Martin records was a long time ago). Therefore, I am finally returning the favor with a shout out to the I Love Dino Martin blog. If you are a fan of Martin, you should check this blog out.
Turner Classic Movies some time ago featured Dino as the Star of The Month and featured quite a few of his movies, including his first big dramatic break post Jerry Lewis, The Young Lions as well as all the Matt Helm movies, none of which I had seen before. There was some takeaway that I learned that I was supposed to relay in this post, but alas, it has faded with time and I can not remember the important factoid that would have blown your mind. Perhaps I should start writing this stuff down as I learn it.
There are artists who transcend genres and Dino is certainly one such singer. This record in particular, released by Reprise in 1963 with arrangements by Don Costa, tears thru 12 country standards including works by Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash. It is a good little record. I liked a lot of the songs but in general, this album is all Dino. If it was not for the title, you forget that this is supposedly a country record. He does not bend to these songs. Instead, these songs mold around him. That is the kind of talent Dino had.
I had half of this record down for sample consideration and was leaning towards one of the songs which have become staples of this blog such as “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” or “Walk The Line”. However, I settled on “Singing the Blues” because I felt this song in particular really fit into Dino’s swinging style.
Satisfactory record.

Hey pallies, likes long time 'go now, as we were passionly perusin' Dino-vids over at youtube, we felt lovin'ly led to this coolest of cool clip filmed at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on that day back in the year of our Dino 1964 when our most beloved Dino placed his hand prints and footprints in cement on March 21.

We finds this incredibly intriguin' seein' how months' later on December 22, 1964 that "Kiss Me Stupid," our Dino's most controversial big screen epic, would premier in New York City.

On This Date In Dino-history: March 21, 1987
Hey pallies, likes it was 32 solemnly sad years 'go on this day, March 21 in the year of our Dino 1987, that our most beloved Dino's most beloved boypallie, Captain Dino Jr., while pilotin' a Guard F-4 Phantom fighter jet for the California Air National Guard, crashed the plane in California's San Bernardino Mountains durin' a snowstorm. Dino Jr. and his Weapons System Officer, Mr. Ramon Ortiz, were both killed in the crash. Truly it is the saddest and most somber day in the life of our Dino.
Likes his incredible Daddy-o, Dino Jr. was a remarkable renaissance man of extraordinary talents.....singer, actor, tennis pro, pilot. Dino Jr. was destined to become heir apparent to the throne of our King of Cool, but likes that was so so tragically cut short by the crash of the jet on that darkest of dark days in the life of our Dino.
The demise of Dino Jr. began the demise of our Dino himself. Our great man simply lost the will to live without his prodigy by his side. Truth be told, probably the only man that our Dino looked up to was his beloved namesake Dino Jr.
Below is a picture of Dino Jr.'s gravesite and a bit of information on Dino Jr. and the location of the grave. We thanks the pad Seeing Stars for this picture and information. Also included below is a brief footage of the memorial service for Dino Jr. and

The Grave of Dean Martin Jr.
Dino, the son of Dean Martin, part of the 60's pop band "Dino, Desi, and Billy." An Air Force Captain, he was killed when his plane crashed into a mountain; buried at the huge military National Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. His grace is against the south fence bordering Wilshire Blvd, in Section 419, grave P-28.
"...or should we... or do you... want to come with me and my dad to pay respects to Dean Martin at his graveside?"
Hey pallies, likes once 'gain, as promised we are back this Dino-day with a Dino-centric post from the awesome actual homepad internet space of Mr. Robbie Williams that we located via his fansite at "Robbie Williams Place." Likes recently when we arrived at Robbie's home space, we, of course, put the name of our beloved Dino into the provided search box and we located the post beloved dated 22 April 07.
Likes what we discover was a quire by Robbie to some unknown pallie 'bout whether they oughta play Fifa 07 on the Xbox or whether the pallie wanted to make pilgrimage with Robbie and his daddy-o to "pay respects to Dean Martin at his graveside?" Gotta 'fess up that we didn't have a clue what Fifa 07 is, so we googled it and discovered that it is the "2006 edition of EA Sports' series of football simulator video games. Developed by EA Canada, it is published by Electronic Arts." (Thanks to the pallies at WIKI for that info.)
We don't know what. if any response that Robbie got to his question, but we do that that back in '07, while Robbie and his daddy-o were in Cali that they did indeed pay their reverent respect to our most beloved Dino by visitin' his restin' place at Westwood Village Cemetery, CA. We remembered sharin' a Dino-gram on this when it was shared on the internet in May of '07 and that post can be viewed
HERE. Unfortunately the original link that we shared to the Brit news pad, "The Sun" no longer contains all the Dino-details.
At the time we first learned of Robbie's deepest Dino-desire to visit our Dino's grave site, we were deeply touched by it and only wishes that we had copied the original Sun article that I believe shared Robbie's reverent reflections on his profound pilgrimage. Likes, we have done a bit of current net searchin', but have not been able to locate any details of that May 2007 visit. We are includin' an image of Dino's grave marker as well as Robbie's original post, which can also be accessed by clickin' on the tag of this particular Dino-gram.

"I could be, you know, Dean Martin with tattoos, which is the hope."
Hey pallies, likes there is 'citin' Dino-news this very Dino-day from our Dino's playground, 'Vegas baby 'Vegas 'bout the premier performances of Dino-devoted Brit entertainer Mr. Robbie Williams in his first ever 'Vegas performances at the Winn. From CBS Channel 8's LasVegasNow.com come the potent prose "I-Team: English entertainer hopes Wynn residency will be permanent fixture on the Strip."
This perfect prose and vibrant vid combo tells us the swank story of Robbie's comin' to Las Vegas and in Robbie's own wondrous words his Dino-hearted desire that "I could be, you know, Dean Martin with tattoos, which is the hope."
What this amazin' article does not tell youse is that Robbie has incredibly idolized our most beloved Dino for a long, long time. Dino-holics gathered 'round ilovedinomartin may remember that back in the year of our Dino 2007, Robbie was one of the supreme singers that has the great gift of duetin' with our one and only Dino on the Dino-al-b-um tagged "Forever Cool." That coolest of croon, "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" is featured at the end of this Dino-gram.
In addition, likes just before that Dino-Robbie croon is the coolest of cool clip of the special vid that was created to be sold with a special edition of "Forever Cool." Several of the singers who sang along with our Dino on this awesome al-b-um each speak of their deepest of deep devotion to our King of Cool, includin' four stunnin' statements by Robbie of his awesome admiration and deepest desire "to be like Dean Martin." We were marvelously moved when we first heard Robbie's touchin' and tender Dino-thoughts and we share 'em with you here:
"He looked fearless, absolutely fearless. There is that undeniable force that you can't put a name on."
"There' something about Dean, for me, that might sound silly, but it is almost meditative."
"I just want to be like him in real life. Off stage I want to be like Dean Martin. He's funny, handsome, charming. I've got it nailed."
"It is, it is very scary. Because Dean Martin, I love him, and I want to deal him justice. And, I'd like to think, you know, that he would be proud of me."
Likes we stand absolutely in awe of Robbie's personal testimony of his absolute adulation of our great great man, and we woulda loves to attend one of his performances if one to hear him speak of his amazin' affection for our one, our only Dino.
By the way pallies, the incredible image of Robbie and our Dino comes from a Robbie William's fan blog tagged "Robbie William's Place" which our next Dino-gram to youse will originate. We thank the pallies at
CBS Channel 8's LasVegasNow.com, and in particular Mr. George Knapp and Mr. Matt Adams who put together the post shared below. To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-report.

I-Team: English entertainer hopes Wynn residency will be permanent fixture on the Strip

LAS VEGAS - Robbie Williams, the newest star on the Las Vegas Strip, is a household name all over the world -- well, except here the in the United States. But he's hoping to change that with his new residency at the Wynn.
While Williams is still relatively unknown to American audiences, he's know to fill stadiums on four other continents. And as the I-Team's George Knapp found out, he hopes to become a permanent Las Vegas Fixture.
Williams' performance Friday night will be his fifth performance at the Wynn, but he is already setting records and generating waves because his first residency sold out in just 30 minutes! And when more dates were added, those sold out as well.
So who is Robbie Williams?
"I wanted to do rock and roll. I wanted to be the Who, the Rolling Stones, you know, but I'm more the Bob Hope," Williams said as he laughed.
But few who have seen Robbie Williams' new show at the Wynn will confuse him with Bob Hope because the production feels so big. There's a nine-piece band, dancers, backup singers, dazzling effects, and from all of that comes a big sound.
The singer says he is spending more on the show than what he's being paid, primarily because he wants to make a lasting impression on his American audiences.
"This is a calling card," Williams proclaimed. "I'm making no money in Vegas. It's just me going 'check this out. This is what I can do. Would you like me to come back?"
Well, the answer is a clear yes for the promoters and hotel. At an introductory news conference, local executives said the residency sold out in minutes, the fastest they've ever seen.
But, Williams is no stranger to such records. One of his tours sold 1.6 million tickets in just 30 minutes.
For his fans, the Wynn showroom is a unique chance to see the artist up close and personal, which is a totally different feel from his usual audiences in the UK, Russia, Australia, and South America that usually packs enormous stadiums.
For Williams, the more intimate setting is a bit scary.
"You go and do a stadium, there's that many people, a sea of people, that they almost become not there," Williams said. "In this place, 1,600 people, you can see every single eye, you can see every single smile and every single yawn, and it's really scary."
But there have been few if any yawns at Williams' first Las Vegas shows.
Overall, Williams has sold 77 million records. American audiences may not recognize his biggest hits, but his show is also packed with classics songs made famous in the U.S. by the Rat Pack and cabaret artists like Sinatra and Dean Martin. A couple of men who are his inspiration.
Williams says songs from the iconic men have always been a part of his act. According to Williams, Las Vegas is his Mecca, and those songs are in his DNA.
"I could be a totally different artist here," Williams said. "I could be, you know, Dean Martin with tattoos, which is the hope."
Critics have been effusive in their reviews of the new show.
Williams and his show will once again return to the Wynn in June and July. There are also already discussions about a long term deal.

On This Day In Dino-history: March 18, 1960
Hey pallies, likes we are back with 'nother incredibly important delightful date in all of Dino-history.
From the new-to-ilovedinomartin blog "Vintage Vinyl News Music," whose "focus is the honoring and chronicling of the biggest artists and records of the last 64 years, going back to 1955, the birth of rock and roll" comes the wonderful word that it was on this very date, March 18, in the year of our Dino 1960 that perhaps our Dino's more revered role on the silver screen premiered....our Dino as the Dude in that classic of classic western "Rio Bravo." Indeed, we have long believed that this is the fabulous flick that our Dino oughta been nominated and won the Oscar for Best Actor.
Well, likes we just can't let this date pass ilovedinomartin by and so, in spite of bein' AWOL from our humble little Dino-conclave recently for several months due to dire personal circumstances, we had to return this very Dino-day to coolly celebrate our marvelously magnificent man with some monumental moments from "Rio Bravo." Below is a youtube vid clip amazin'ly accentin' our Dino's awesome actin' as the Dude 'long with a vid clip of our Dino croonin' the title tune "Rio Bravo" and, of course, one of our Dino and company singin' "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me."
Likes over the course of time, ilovedinomartin has shared many many revelin' reviews of "Rio Bravo, and if you woulda likes to checks 'em out, simply puts "Rio Bravo" in the search engine at the top of the blog page to do so. Well hey there, pallies!
What's shakin'?
How's the weather...in your part of the world?
Thins' still a little cold & snowy here.
Not too too bad though, mi amici.
There IS light at the end of the tunnel!
Supposed to start warmin' up...a little...this comin' week.

Yes sir!
So, my Dino-lovin' friends...let's get some appropriate Dino-tunes flowin'!
It's funny how thins' inspire the exact jam I choose each week.
Just kinda hits me over the head!
Haha!!
Well, pals...this week was no different.
It actually was inspired by a couple thins'.
First is obviously Spring & LOVE itself...bein' in the air.
But what REALLY made this Serenade an obvious choice is a GREAT GREAT flick I watched this week.
Twice actually.
Atonement.
It's a story 'bout two people.
Completely in love!
Torn apart because of an awful lie.
Never to reunite...but a TRUE love that never ended.
So So sad, pallies.
DEF I NATE LY gotta watch...if youse already hasn't.
Now, mi amici...don't get me wrong.
I'm not into all the "sappy" love flicks out there.
Yuck!
But...every now & then...a TRUE Love story does move me.
And inspires me.
Just like Dean's music...it hits a nerve or makes me think.
I'm not made of stone, pals!
Hahaha!!!
Youse know what I'm getting at, my friends.
These bonds are special...& rare.
Anyways...checks out this movie.
Now, in the mean time...with Dino-tunes...Spring...& TRUE love, in mind...checks out "Let Me Love You Tonight".
It's SURE to move youse...as well.
Enjoy.

Good mornin', pals!
Welcome to March!
Man o man...Winter is sailin' on by...& I couldn't be more excited to see it go!
Haha!!
Now don't get me wrong, my friends.
I LOVES the whole December Christmassy vibe!
The chilly nights of January!
Even the blizzardy days of February!
But...dear pallies o' mine...come March...I'm LONGIN' for warm Spring breezes...flowers poppin' up & birdies makin' their nests!
Ahhhhhh.
DEF I NATE LY my FAVE time of year, mi amici.
Well...we is gettin' there.
Only 17 days to go!
Now I know, it's not an instant change of weather...just 'cause the calendar says so.
I live in Massachusetts. I knows the deal.
But...it IS a state of mind, pals!
For me anyway.
Peaceful.
Time for new beginins'.
Rebirth & All the BEA U TI FUL thins' it has to offer!
Now just add a little...or a lot...of Dino, to that mix...& BOOM!
It's Spring!
It's truly a blessin', how Dean's tunes can create such an atmosphere.
No matter what time of year...he seems to have a WONDERFUL jam that just sets the mood.
So, pallies o' mine...as I sit here typin' away...in the middle of two snowstorms, hittin' us this weekend...I have peaceful thoughts in mind...& warm Springtime days in my soul.
OK...so what Dino-croon to play?
Well, pals...just so happens that I was fortunate 'nough to hear from one of our BESTEST followers of this COOL COOL little blog...Ms. AOW!
She was kind 'nough & cool 'nough to lay some AWESOME Dino-tunes on me...& one that I don't thinks I've heard before!
Now this relaxin' little jam just got me SO SO mellow & at peace...that I knew...it was the PERFECTO Serenade for our first Sunday in March!
So, mi amici...without further a due...& a special "Thank you" to Ms. AOW...checks out, "Once Upon a Time, it Happened."
Enjoy.
