We gotta 'fess up that we are simply simply swankly smitten by these wise words scribed by one of the twins, "Another non-straight man often mistaken for one is Dean Martin in the Martin and Lewis pairings." Another non-straight man often mistaken for one is Dean Martin in the Martin and Lewis pairings. The Martin and Lewis movies started to fail when Dean was treated as a straight man despite the fact that he is not one. Sure, Dean is the smart one compared to the two (like Hardy) but he delivers punch-lines and jokes the same way Jerry does, he just does it differently. Dean may be the more grounded one and he is not nearly as goofy as Jerry but he has his own humor intact. Martin and Lewis work well when Dean and Jerry play off each other equally rather than just Martin playing off Lewis. The change is when it was clear that the studio did not understand the humor crafted by the Martin and Lewis team. Dean had the looks and the singing voice, so he had to be the straight man despite the fact that he never was intended to be one.

Smart ladies, pallie! I'm totally on board with that point of view. NEVER try to pigeon-hole our numero uno pal, Dino. Can play the straight man when need be but had his own style of comedy for sure!

Danny G,
Spot on!
Our Dino was incredibly more versatile than Jerry. Jerry would be the first to agree with me on that.
