Danny G's Sunday Serenade with Dino: " Blue Christmas"
Hey pallies. Welcome back.
Well, mi amici...here we are...middle of Dino-Winter Month...& your pal, Danny G., has got a MAJOR case of the Christmas blues.
Now, I usually make it a rule not to drag TOO much personal stuff into our Serenades, pals...especially when it's on a negative vibe...but I thought it through...& I was thinkin'...maybe there's some pallies out there, who might ALSO be feelin' a wee bit down this time of year. Perhaps very down.
Maybe a special spirit is no longer with youse or maybe things just aren't goin' the way youse wish they were. Whatever it may be, pals...maybe Dean croonin' some "Blue Christmas" will say it best.
No matter what it is... nuthin' better for a case of the Wintery woes...than some Dino for the soul!
Sometimes...I believe...we need to REALLY listen to the words & wisdom of our BESTEST pal, more than ever!
Dean was a "realist". He knew how life was. Ups & downs. Good days & bad. We ALL hurt sometimes, pallies. Even when we're supposed to be spreadin' cheer.
Well my fellow Blue Blue Dino-holics...Let's keep our chins up...Accept the inevitable...& let Dean sooth our hurtin' hearts.
This one goes out to my little Bella...wherever youse are! I miss ya'!
I'll have a blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue thinkin' about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
They won't mean a thing if you're not here with me
I'll be so blue thinkin' about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
They won't mean a thing if you're not here with me
I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas
I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas
And when that blue heartache starts hurtin'
You'll be doin' all right with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas

I THINK I HEAR THE VOICE OF DEAN MARTIN
Hey pallies, likes on this thirteenth day of Dino-winter-month we takes you to the great state of Maine and to blog "Lobster On The Praire' where blogger "LOBSTERMANPINEPOINT" has shared his Dino-centric post, "I THINK I HEAR THE VOICE OF DEAN MARTIN."
Scribed mid-November of this very Dino-year, the writer of this bit of Dino-devotion speaks of the "first snow" to fall in Maine this season, and of how that white stuff leads 'em into sing the Dino-croon, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" Likes as many many of you true Dino-devotees know that that particular Dino-croon was the ab-so-lute-ly the most popular of popular seasonal croons last year!
ilovedinomartin salutes Mr. "LOBSTERMANPINEPOINT" for accentin' our most belove Dino in this way and helpin' us all gets more and more into the spirit of this Dino-season. We have included a youtube vid clip of this great great Dino-wintery croon for all our Dino-listenin' pleasure. I THINK I HEAR THE VOICE OF DEAN MARTIN
NOVEMBER 16, 2014 / LOBSTERMANPINEPOINT
All is right in the world this morning. It’s the first snow “storm” of the year…maybe 3″. So what, I don’t care, and haven’t since I could recognize what snowing was – around 18-20 months old, so I was told. It also means we’re heading into the Holiday season the right way, with snow (granted, it’s temporary) on the ground before Thanksgiving (an old wives’ fable in Maine)!
So without further adieu, please join me in singing, along with Dino (no one sang it better!!!):
” Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, And since we have no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
As much as every joint in my body screams to move to a warmer / kinder climate at this stage in our lives, neither my wife nor I will ever let that happen. We love the four seasons.
Eventually, within the next 30-36 months, we’ll be back in Maine. The proper sod for the final act.
Looking out over our backyard right now, the sod of the prairie – covered with snow – would be pretty hard to beat for its pure beauty, and tranquility…anywhere.
Dean, how about another chorus?, and let me take the lead.

Dino-seasonal vid creativity from Mr. James Kelsey

Hey pallies, likes his tag is Mr. James Kelsey and his game is creatin' some Dino-wintery fun via a couple of youtube vid creations. Kelsey has created a Santa Dino likeness drawin that somehow someway he has very very simply animated to croon some Dino-seasonal tunes. While the likeness ain't bad, the croonin' ain't much likes our Dino's glorious vocals...but we gotta 'fess up that it is very very funny.
The first vid, "dean martin sings about christmas" features "All I Want For Christmas," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and a wee bit of "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime." The second vid "rudolph the red nosed reindeer. dean martin" accents, of course, Dino singin' 'bout Rudy the Reindeer" and to our hears sounds much more likes our most beloved Dino then in the first vid.
ilovedinomartin salutes Mr. James Kelsey for usin' some of his cool creativity to gives us some Dino-wintery fun! Dino-funnin', DMP

In the first of the series, we’ll be looking at the late crooner, actor, and all-around boss, Dean Martin.
From the swingin'ly tagged blog "FFMS - Five Men Making Sh!t - We make cool sh!t and then tell you about it," comes some of the most powerfully, purely poetic prose that ilovedinomartin has ever ever had the privilege of sharin'. Simply stated, "Style Icon: Dean Martin," has been scribed by one of the "Five Men," namely Mr. Mano Kardaras, who hails from Ottawa, Canada.
Posted a bit over six months ago on May 12, Kardaras's kindness and deepest of deep respect shines brightly through his excellent essay on our King of Cool. This remarkable read is actually the first of a series of posts that Manno has 'stablished "on specific male celebrities who exemplify class, style and sophistication." And we gotta say that we are more then pleased as punch that Kardaras chose our most beloved Dino as the focus of his premier entry sayin'.....
"In the first of the series, we’ll be looking at the late crooner, actor, and all-around boss, Dean Martin. He’s an excellent choice to start with because he had it all – the looks, the charm, the sophistication – many traits that seem to be falling out of favour with the modern man. A man that always made people smile, Dean Martin set a standard for how a man should carry himself."
And, this homage only gets better from there dudes! Included as some standard bits from the life, times, and teachin's of our main man. It is likes completely coolly clear that Mr. Manno Kardaras is truly truly in the Dino-know and deeply deeply devoted to our Dino. Likes we coulda goes on and one 'bout how fantasticly fabulous Manno's salute is, but then that will only delay youse from delvin' deeply into his powerfully passionate prose.
We do want to 'specially salute Manno for closin' his Dino-essay with wise words accentin' our Dino's "generosity and loyalty – that truly made him special." Kardaras relates a Dino-tale that we have never come 'cross before of our great great man's great great kindness to a mother and daughter in distress. It's the most heart-warmin' of heart-warmin' Dino-remembrances and the bestest of best part of all of Manno's wondrously wise words of Dino-wisdom.
Words can not express our deepest of deep appreciato to Mr. Manno Kardaras for his powerfully potent prose of Dino-devotion. Thanks ever so much for so so openly and carin'ly sharin' your love for our most beloved Dino and helpin' many many we believe will grow in knowin', lovin' and honorin' our Dino! We are only sorry that we did not happen upon this golden gem of Dino-glory before! To checks this out in it's original format, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-gram. Dino-awed, DMP
Mano Kardaras in Other Sh!t | May 12, 2014
Style Icon: Dean Martin
Here at Five Men Making Sh!t, we tend to post about food and cocktails. But our interests also extend beyond those two elements, to other sh!t which we’re just as passionate about.
In keeping with our “manly” motif, I hope to establish a series on specific male celebrities who exemplify class, style and sophistication. I think we can learn a lot of important things from these men besides their favourite cocktail (although that’s highly important).
In the first of the series, we’ll be looking at the late crooner, actor, and all-around boss, Dean Martin. He’s an excellent choice to start with because he had it all – the looks, the charm, the sophistication – many traits that seem to be falling out of favour with the modern man. A man that always made people smile, Dean Martin set a standard for how a man should carry himself.
Born Dino Paul Crocetti, Dean Martin is remembered as the quintessential man’s man – the “King of Cool”. He was one of the most successful entertainers of the 20th century and had an inimitable style.
Martin’s big break came when he teamed up with legendary comedian Jerry Lewis to create Martin & Lewis. The duo starred in several hit films together before breaking up in 1956. He then went on to a solo career (TV, film, music) and recorded such hits as Everybody Loves Somebody, That’s Amore and the cult favourite, Mambo Italiano. He also starred in several films, including the original Ocean’s 11 which took place in a vastly different Las Vegas than we know today.
Although he enjoyed much success and had a variety of roles, Martin was not a workaholic. In fact, during his popular variety program The Dean Martin Show, he only worked 2 hours a week – when the show was being aired. He rarely rehearsed…he preferred the spontaneity. If there was a mistake, they wouldn’t re-shoot, it was kept in.
The bigger reason for this low-key workload was because Martin wanted spare time for his true love in life – golf. He would wake up early in the mornings just to get a round in. He was never happier than when he was out on the fairways and greens of California. He was a solid player and always sported a tan due to his love of the game. Not a bad gig.
Arguably, his coolest moments came out his association with four of his “pallies” – the infamous Rat Pack. Led by Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack also included Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford. Together they would play to packed houses, star in films, and own the Vegas nightlife. With Sinatra at the helm, the gang exuded coolness wherever they went. Women adored them. Men yearned to be like them. They were the alpha males of the 60’s because they had the talent and played by their own rules.
The “Rat Pack”
Although Sinatra was the unofficial “leader” of the group, it was Martin who really captivated the most on stage. He was tall and had a strong build – so he had the physical presence. But on top of that, he knew how to play to the audience and was often the funniest guy on stage – and this is including Sammy Davis Jr. who could belt out some spot-on celebrity impressions.
Watch the following video carefully. You’ll notice Martin’s subtle gags. He has everyone in stitches, including his fellow performers. Sinatra has the raw vocal talent, Sammy Davis Jr. is extremely energetic, Johnny Carson (not an official member of the Rat Pack; simply the host for the event) is a bit stiff, but Martin is simply smiling and letting his personality shine through. He’s genuinely having a good time and even the smallest gags get a huge reaction.
Martin was also one of the most fashionable men in Hollywood. Back when everyone dressed up for every occasion, he still managed to be unique, yet classic – his classic red handkerchief with his tuxedo, for example.
A few things stand out in the image below. He’s cleanly shaven and his hair is at a good length and well kept. The light grey pinstripe suit complements his tan and fits snug at the shoulders. A light blue shirt contrasts the light grey perfectly and the full-Windsor tie is centered with his collar. The icing on the cake is the cigarette in his left hand. Considered taboo nowadays, smoking was something that everyone did back then. You weren’t cool if you didn’t smoke. Like other successful singers in his time, Martin smoked like a chimney and it never affected his voice.
Smoking while recording an album – boss
Martin’s affection for always having a drink in his hand gave him the perception of that of a lush. Every time he was on stage, he’d be drinking and seemed to mumble and stumble around. This was an act. Sure he’d enjoy a couple of drinks here and there, but he was never a drunk. It was recently revealed that during most of his performances, his glass would be filled with apple juice. His long-time producer, Greg Garrison explains:
“There was apple juice in that glass. It was always apple juice in that glass. Dean was the greatest contradiction of all time; between the persona we were projecting on the television screen and what really went on with his drinking.”
What did Martin prefer when he did drink? A simple mix of rye and ginger. Not extravagant. Just a strong, delicious drink. He preferred highballs – a tall drink for a tall man.
“I feel sorry for you people that don’t drink. Because when you get up in the morning, that’s as good you’re gonna feel all day.” – Dean Martin, 1964
Although he had a few setbacks in his first marriage, Martin was living the life. He was cool, funny, talented, handsome, and wealthy. In the eyes of the public, he could do no wrong. Nevertheless, I would argue that it was the side that people didn’t see – his generosity and loyalty – that truly made him special.
A few years ago, a woman posted a piece on a blog recounting how she came to meet Dean Martin. She was having dinner with her mother in in LA during the late 80s, which just happened to be at Martin’s favourite restaurant. They saw him walk in and were instantly star struck as he made his way to his usual table. They debated going over to say hello, but couldn’t muster up the courage to do it. Just as they were about to pay their bill, they realized they didn’t have enough money. They were mortified and began to panic.
As as the waiter came by and the women were about to explain their plight, he interrupts them and informs them that the Bill had been taken care of by Mr. Martin. The women, in shock, asked why. He explained that Martin overheard their panicked conversation and insisted that he cover the bill. The women, still in complete disbelief, then notice Martin making his way to their table. Martin tells them that he hoped they enjoyed their meals and their time in LA and then insists on paying for dessert. And off he went.
An example of his loyalty was demonstrated five years into his wildly popular variety program TheDean Martin Show. The show was sold to NBC and part of that arrangement ended with Martin owning a lot of stock in RCA. A lot of stock – the largest shareholder of RCA stock in the world, in fact. Yet he did not forget who helped put him on top – his long-time friend and producer, Greg Garrison. Martin informed Garrison that they were 50/50 partners and they shook on it. No contract was signed. No lawyers were involved. Martin kept his word and they were partners for 30 years. An old fashioned handshake was all that it took for Garrison to become a millionaire in his own right – the lost art of honouring one’s word with a manly handshake.
With the Rat Pack, Martin and company refused to play at any venues that would discriminate against African-Americans. Sammy Davis Jr. was a good friend and Martin and Sinatra played an underrated role in advancing the civil rights of African-Americans in the 1960s.
Martin was a style icon in more respects than just the traditional sense. It stemmed from his personality – the way he exuded confidence and charisma, the way he could make everybody laugh with a sly smile. More importantly, it was in the way he treated others. Besides his talent, Martin was relatable to people because he was having fun doing what he was doing and never took himself too seriously. It’s something we all wish we could do – and make lots of money doing it.
It was that air of confidence, the way in which he handled himself and treated others, that truly gives him the moniker “The King of Cool.”
Dean Martin was a man from a different era. A time when men were funny without being dirty; a time when men could make mistakes and not have it be the end of the world. A time when class, sophistication and genuine kindness were not taboo and frowned upon. In our social media-obsessed world, it’s important to slow down sometimes, take a step back, and ask ourselves if we’re being the type of men we want to be.
Take a page out of Dean’s book. Carry yourself like a man, make people laugh, and raise a highball. And don’t forget to get a few holes in before the sun sets. To paraphrase one of his most famous songs – memories are truly made of this.

Danny G's Sunday Serenade with Dino: "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"

Hey pals! Happy Dino-Winter Month!

What better tune to kick thins' off than, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"?!!!
Dean is at his SWOONINIST!
REALLY pourin' on that Dino-charm in this one, pallies!
Now seriously mi amici...what lucky dame could POSSIBLY let Dean leave on such a blizzardy night?!
C'mon now ladies! I mean this COOL COOL cat even brought his own corn for poppin'!!! Hahaha!!!
Yes Sir! That's my Dino! Ha!!!
Well...If I know our BESTEST & SMOOTHEST pal... likes I thinks I do...then he's gonna be "goodbyin"...'til ALL the poppin' corn has been popped & that delightful fire has flickered it's last flickerin' flicker!!! Haha!!! Oh, & by the way pallies...this version may be a wee bit different than the usual version of this wintery Dino-classic. I knows youse gonna dig on it!!!
OK ol' friends o' mine...let's get thins' snowin'& flowin' & WELCOME this GREAT GREAT Dino-season! Enjoy!!!
Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I brought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
When we finally kiss good-night
How I'll hate going out in the storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
When we finally kiss good-night
How I'll hate going out in the storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

And, this Dino-seasonal prose gives testimony that Danny-o is truly truly an up-and-comin' proser of hip, cool, and ever randy Dino-parodies as well!

Twas the night before Christmas
at the Dean Martin pad
chicks and pallies were groovin'
the music was rad.
Martinis were pourin'
shaken not stirred
Dino's "White Christmas'
was all that was heard.
The stockings were stuffed
with vodka and gin
Ol' blue eyes and Sammy
just stumbled in.
The boys in their tuxes
broads wrapped in their minks
Sir Dino was mixin'
some holiday drinks.
Then up on the roof
they heard a hell of a smash
Sammy yelled out
"Hey man, Santa just crashed!"
Frank invited him in
for a drink and a smoke
Santa said "Sure!
I'll take a rum and a coke!"
A bundle of booze
he had on his back
the tag on the bag
said "For the Rat Pack"
Dean gave Jeannie her gift
"To the one I love most"
"It's just what I wanted,
The Dean Martin Roasts!"
Dino caught Santa's eye
and gave him a wink
straightened his bow tie
and finished his drink.
The party still swingin'
Dino snuck up to bed
while visions of showgirls
danced in his head.
As St. Nick jumped in his sleigh
and rose to the heavens
They all gathered round'
to watch "Ocean's Eleven".
But they heard him exclaim
as he flew through the sky
"Merry Christmas Dino Crocetti,
your my kinda guy!!!"

.....it’s worth listening to Dean sing the songs as he invests feeling in them, and his relaxed delivery is reflective.
Hey pallies, likes on this fifth day of Dino-winter-month we shares with youse a ravin' review of our most beloved Dino's Christmas Al-b-um, "The Dean Martin Christmas Album by Dean Martin (1966)." Scribed by a Mr. Brian J. Noggle at his self-tagged blog, "MUSINGS FROM BRAIN J. NOGGLE, it is clear that this dude digs our great great man a great great lot! While Noggle's review is rather brief in word count, it is none-the-less long of Dino-adulation.
We likes deeply deeply digs how Bri reflects on his amazin' appreciato for this classic set of Dino-wintery croons, sayin' "It’s a mood-setting collection, which is a step above background music; it’s worth listening to Dean sing the songs as he invests feeling in them, and his relaxed delivery is reflective." We digs Bri's wise words of Dino-knowin' about how "relaxed our Dino's "delivery" is, but also so remarkably "reflective" there are at the same time!

Christmas Album Review: The Dean Martin Christmas Album by Dean Martin (1966)

If you’re expecting “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” on this album, baby, it’s the wrong record; that omnipresent song, the one most associated with Dean Martin and Christmas, is from his 1959 platter A Winter Romance.
This album, from 1966 (and on a different label), features Dean Martin’s laid back takes on these classic Christmas songs:
“White Christmas”
“Jingle Bells”
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”
“Blue Christmas”
“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
“Marshmallow World”
“Silver Bells”
“Winter Wonderland”
“The Things We Did Last Summer”
“Silent Night”
It’s a mood-setting collection, which is a step above background music; it’s worth listening to Dean sing the songs as he invests feeling in them, and his relaxed delivery is reflective.
My beautiful wife quibbles with the inclusion of “Marshmellow World” on the album, as it is her least favorite secular Christmas carol of all time and might be mathematically the absolute worst song for her ever as she cannot stand marshmallows, whipped cream, or most of the things the winter landscape reminds the singer of. On the other hand, it transitions right into “Silver Bells”, which is her favorite secular Christmas carol, so the crisis is averted.
Meanwhile, I think it’s odd to include “The Things We Did Last Summer” on the LP as it’s more of a reflective, nostalgia song than a winter song or a Christmas song. But I guess it gets included to break the theme up a little bit with a tangental tune, like “A Few of My Favorite Things” gets included on Christmas albums because it mentions packages and gifts.
At any rate, I recommend it; it’s definitely on heavy rotation here at Nogglestead.

The nog-of-egg filleth my cup as the voice-of-Dino filleth my spirits! Visions of sugar plums, and echoes of Dino dance in your head. As self-proclaimed Mayor of Dino-ville, I declare, officially, that Dino is The Voice of the Season!

Lyrically "MW" is a masterpiece. Metaphors' paintings on cerebral canvases of celebratory holiday festivities. Marshmallows, whipped cream, pumpkins, snowballs, yum-ymmy's, sweet hearts and sugar dates. Dino is the rum in in this eggnog. The perfect elixir for your holiday frolicking. "Take a walk with your favorite girl". Wink wink pally.

It's a marshmallow world in the winter
When the snow comes to cover the ground
It's the time for play, it's a whipped cream day
I wait for it the whole year round.
Those are marshmallow clouds being friendly
In the arms of the evergreen trees
And the sun is red like a pumpkin head
It's shining so your nose wont freeze.
The world is your snowball, see how it grows
Thats how it goes whenever it snows
The world is your snowball just for a song
Get out and roll it along
It's a yum-yummy world made for sweethearts
Take a walk with your favorite girl
It's a sugar date, what if spring is late
In winter it's a marshmallow world.

It’s a "Marshmallow World" in the winter! The official voice of the season is a familiar one pallies. Breezes of Dino stirring the chilly holiday air has become an encouraging trend in our Dino-verse. Dino doin’ carols, fires doin’ chestnuts, snowflakes doin’ noses, it’s all one big collective snowball of yule tide!
Scoot over Der-Bingle, Dino’s oldie but a goodie “Marshmallow World” is the “White Christmas” of the 21st century! Very similar to the late blooming “Ain’t That a Kick in The Head”, “Marshmallow World” is experiencing a late growth spurt. Wasn’t long ago where if you didn’t own the LP, you didn’t hear this gem. And that’s a shame! The now familiar tune, recorded June 30th 1966 for Reprise Records, and released on the Dean Martin Christmas Album on October 11, 1966, wasn’t re-released into present day media until after 1998.

December 21, 1967. The Dean Martin Show. Woo woo! Dino's having a blast. Ole Blue Eyes quips a ‘punkin head’. Dino-Cool and The Voice radiating audio warmth to the masses. Tuxes, and cigarettes singing snowballs and sugar dates. Crazy-daddy! Pick your pleasure, LP version of "MW", Dino 'n Frank version , or the Bob Hope special version. Like art, you can't explain it, but you know it when you see it. Pure Dino.

Dean Martin's "Baby It's Cold Outside"

All through my childhood and right up to this very day, I have had a weird relationship with Christmas music. Most of it sounds corny. Most of it is a rehash of another artist's work. Most of it is so lame. Still, there's something nice when it's December, cold, nightime, firelight flickering, the tree is up, cookies are out, and a familiar tune is playing in the background. Sometimes the moment hits, and I love hearing a Christmas song. My mom destroyed Christmas music when I was growing up by playing it from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day. It's in her blood, my Memere does the same thing. Despite the pain of listening to Randy Travis' version of Christmas classics or Madonna's "Santa Baby" growing up, I did find a crew of singers that I could listen to sing music non-stop: the Rat Pack. Above all others, I can listen to Dean Martin all day long singing about Rudy (a reindeer), Ol' Saint Nick, and being cold. The song that tops them all, and it's not a Christmas song, just a Winter themed song, is "Baby It's Cold Outside".
Let's break this song down: it is about Dean trying to get laid. How do I know? Listen to the lyrics. It's sung as a conversation between two young people who are courting, with the cheery 1950s female backup singers (probably all wearing garter belts and silk stockings) playing the role of the lady to Dean's bachelor. In the first verse, the female states twice, I've got to leave. She invokes the maternal worry & paternal threat to keep Dean at bay. What keeps her there? Maybe she'll have "just a half a drink more". Dean obliges. One of the very next lines is "Say, what's in this drink?". Obviously, Dean is trying hard to get her drunk to take advantage of her '50s style. The whole time Dean is coming up with comebacks to all of her excuses for leaving, and complimenting her at every turn. This is a way of picking up women known as the "Rule of 3". Three drinks or three compliments will usually get you to leave with a lady. The key to this whole verse is the line that the lady sings "at least I'm going to say that I tried", which implies that she is going to give in and get down (score one for Dean!) and knows he'll talk about it around town. Jerk.
Now let's take a moment to mention that in the crappy Rod Stewart-Dolly Parton remake from a couple years ago, they removed the half a drink more line. What? Two adults can't talk about how the woman drank a bit and made a mistake with a man? This is too shocking? Stupid. We've swung so far PC that the pendulum swing back will probably be very nasty.
What's great about the second verse is that this female part mentions three relatives in the second half: sister, brother, and maiden aunt (who is vicious). Who the fuck has a maiden aunt? Was she a school teacher who had to remain single as long as she taught? Is she some old mother hen that cockblocks swinging cats like Dean Martin? She couldn't find a man of her own so she hounds her niece? Ungh. Dean counters this by talking about her delicious lips twice. In the Dean version, the female sings "just a cigarette more", YEAHHHHHHHH! Awesome reference, back when smoking was an adult and supposedly glamourous thing to do. (Of course, the Stewart version does not says cigarette because adults deciding to smoke with their free will is bad). Beautiful touch to the song. Really sets the mind's film reel in motion.
The last verse has the lady asking for a comb, because they got frisky and she doesn't want her hair looking mussed up. I think after the delicious lips and cigarette references, we know why her hair is mussed up. Dean's like, why leave? We can get down again. She mentions the neighbors will talk or even just hint at things to be inferred by others. People were cooler then; now they'd just say "Jenny got drunk & phucked Dean last night, untz". Now, the coolest detail of the song is when Dean is replying to the tomorrow and implied lines he sings "think of my life long sorrow", like her shutting him down would wound him so much (skank), and then the topper "if you caught pneumonia and died". He's throwing the Hail Mary pass here, trying to get her to stay by making her fear death. I'm pretty sure at Brown University, what Dean and this girl do is considered rape.
****I'm a big Dean Martin fan. Smooth voice, smooth style, class, great hair, and smooth with the ladies. Look at the photo I attached in this post. Dean's hugging his girl. Dean's a good guy. He drew her in so tight that he could check out another girl without his main squeeze noticing. He's liked "oh yeah, i got a girl, i'm dependable, women, you can trust me". All the while, he's using that as bait for his lady train. Nice taste Dean, both ladies are foxy.

Than just sit and stare at your face
You're so doggone pretty
That you made the world a whole lot happier place
Than just sit and stare at your face
You're so doggone pretty
That you made the world a whole lot happier place
Life's worth livin' and the love that you're givin'
Has made me feel this way
And the rainbows have chased the clouds away
Has made me feel this way
And the rainbows have chased the clouds away

And I'm learning how to smile
There's sunshine everywhere

The only time it rains, is to cool things for a while
But since I met you, I can't forget you
The rainbows are back in style
But since I met you, I can't forget you
The rainbows are back in style
Your name is like music
And I can't help singin' it over and over again
This happy feeling has got me thinkin' it's heaven I am livin' in
And I can't help singin' it over and over again
This happy feeling has got me thinkin' it's heaven I am livin' in
The love we share, puts the magic in the air
And every dream comes true
And the rainbows turn the sky to blue
And every dream comes true
And the rainbows turn the sky to blue
Rainbows are gettin' back in style
There's sunshine everywhere
And I'm learning how to smile
There's sunshine everywhere
And I'm learning how to smile
The only time it rains is to cool things for a while
But since I met you, I can't forget you
The rainbows are back in style
But since I met you, I can't forget you
The rainbows are back in style
But since I met you, I can't forget you
The rainbows are back in style

Tommorrow In Dino-history: November 30, 1956
Hey pallies, the ol' world wide web continues to be a goldmine chocked full of great Dino-treasure just waitin' to be mined....and that's a huge huge reason we here at ilovedinomartin keeps doin' our best to uncover more and more Dino-devotion for all youse Dino-philes. While doin' some extra credit Dino-searchin' via google blog search we happened upon the rarest of rare Dino-find of some live croonin' of our most beloved Dino and his bestest of best pallie Mr. Frank Sinatra on November 30, 1956.
First posted on the blog "Crooks And Liars" on December 31, 2009, it took us almost five years to uncover this fantastic find of this November 30, 1956 recordin' our most beloved Dino singin' a trio of classic croons for the Hungarian Relief Concert with Sinatra also doin' some solo work. All-in-all there is almost 22 minutes of sensational singin'.
We loves how the recordin' begins with the unnamed announcer givin' our great great man the greatest of praise, sayin' "This fella is going to be on the, I think, one of the finest leading men we've ever seen around this town, and he is going to come out here now, and lead you all to a lot of happiness. And, likes indeed our Dino lays likes a ton of happiness on the crowd as he sings "All Of Me," "Innamorata," and "Is It True What They Say About Dixie." \
Our Dino mentions that it was producer Mr. Joe Pasternak who coaxed his appearance, which let's us know that the concert was around the time that our Dino's first major big screen effort, "Ten Thousand Bedrooms" was bein' released as Pasternak was the producer for that effort.
We are likes totally totally thrilled to be able to share this with all youse Dino-holics, just wishes that it hadn't taken so so long to uncover. Also, as you will read below the sharer of this Dino-treasure, Mr. Gordon Skene discovered "the master tapes from the concert) sitting on a shelf in a garage the better part of forty years before I got the call to "take the junk away".
We wanna express our deepest of deep Dino-appreciato to Skene for sharin' this huge huge Dino-discovery with his readership and eventually with all youse pallies. Likes makes us wonder what more Dino-gold is out there to be mined. To checks this out in it's original format, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-report. Always Awed by our Dino, DMP
Newstalgia New Years Eve Music Special - Dean Martin - Frank Sinatra - Hungarian Relief Concert 1956
I can't think of a better way to end up the year than with a special, rare, never-heard-before performance of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin (not together unfortunately, but Dino's in fine form) from the Hungarian Relief Fundraiser put on in Los Angeles on November 30, 1956.
For some reason, this recording has never been issued anywhere - the master tapes sitting on a shelf in a garage the better part of forty years before I got the call to "take the junk away".
Dean had just broken up his act with Jerry Lewis and Sinatra was going through a career change that took would take a dramatic upturn as well. If memory serves (but don't hold me to it), this predates the Ratpack by about a year.
In any event, this is a rare recording and you get to hear it first.
Thanks to everyone for a great 2009 - especially the crew at C&L. It's all been good fun, dusting off history.
Happy New Year - try and stay sane in the meantime. Wait til 2010!

Thanksgiving anxiety
Transman’s family is planning their holiday get-togethers and Transman is looking forward to it with great fear and trepidation. A dyed-in-the-wool introvert like Transman does not enjoy big social events and even if only the siblings and their families gather, we’re talking 28 attendees in addition to the Patriarch and his blushing bride (all right, maybe Transman exaggerates … they’ve been married for six years or so.)
There will be assorted friends and extended family members, pushing the list up to 40 or 50 people.
The plans keep changing–“We’re doing Thanksgiving at the Patriarch’s!” “Thanksgiving is canceled! We’ll do Christmas instead!” “Thanksgiving is back on! Location to be announced!” “Traditional Thanksgiving and Daisy is doing all the cooking!” “Daisy has to work in the morning; someone else needs to cook.”
“We’re ordering deli platters! Nobody has to cook!” “The Step-Matriarch wants traditional Thanksgiving! She’s too frail to cook it, though.” “We’re handing out Hungry Man TV dinners!”
This is what the holiday planning is always like.
The actual gathering will be “delightfully awkward” as Transman’s best friend likes to describe all of the family gatherings. This is her polite way of describing complete and total systemic dysfunction. There will be graceless, uneasy conversations; passing of judgement on anyone who dares leave the room; drunkenness that leads to emotional outbursts and insults and a whole slew of things that will leave everyone stung and wounded for the next 12 months. Add to all this Transman’s transition as the biggest damn elephant that has ever stomped into a family gathering, and you’ve got one big mess of embarrassment and discomfort for all involved.

“Look! Here come Transman and his little hooligans!” Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra as Transman’s sister and her husband.
“C’mere, you big lug!” Transman, in an uncharacteristic display of affection, hugs his brother-in-law, played by Frank Sinatra. “Let go of me or I will crush this cigarette out in your ear!” B-I-L says.
“Don’t just dump it in! We’re supposed to add the pasta slowly!” Transman yells at his father, played by John Wayne. “I thought we were having a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner! Why are we making spaghetti?!” the old man says. “Don’t ask me,” Transman says, “I’m just doing what they tell me.”
“And I said this meal is over!” Transman’s brother-in-law breaks down after we run out of green olives–and the martinis that go with them.
