Great grandmother who used to work for legendary American artist Dean Martin saved by school children
Hey pallies, likes you just never ever know where the name of our Dino will be lifted up next. Today's Dino-discovery is a cool human interest story 'bout one of our Dino's housekeepers durin' the pinacle of his career in the swingin' 60's and '70's....Miss Hilda Bertenshaw.
As you will read below from patter written by Mr. Tom Bristow of the Brit paper, "Southport Visitor," Miss Bertenshaw, age 91, took sick and might have died without the help of four school children.
So happy to know that this tale of one of our Dino's trusted employees has a happy endin', and so thrilled to see the accent put on our "legendary American artist Dean Martin." Oh, how I woulda loves to speak with Miss Hilda 'bout her days with family Martin and what it was like to serve in the house of the King of Cool! What Dino-stories she musta be able to share 'bout her blessed life of workin' for our beloved Dino.
ilovedinomartin sez it's thanks to Mr. Bristow and the pallies at "Southport Visitor" for sharin' this heartwarmin' human interest tale...and bein' sure to lets their readers know 'bout the Dino-connect. Such Dino-commentary is sure to bring others to knowin', lovin', and honorin' our Dino....and betcha if those youngens come forward who helped Miss Hilda, she will probably tells them 'bout our Dino herself! Great grandmother who used to work for legendary American artist Dean Martin saved by school children
Oct 29 2010 by Tom Bristow, Southport Visiter
DEAN Martin’s former housekeeper is searching for the schoolchildren who helped save her life.
Two weeks ago Hilda Bertenshaw woke up feeling ill and called the ambulance.
But the paramedics could not find her block of flats on Hoghton Street so she struggled out of her home to try and find them.
The 91-year-old made it into the lift, but as she opened the front door to the flats she collapsed.
“I was being sick,” said Hilda. “How the hell I got down in the lift I don’t know. I couldn’t stand up anymore.
“I thought I was going to die. I didn’t know if it was a stroke or what.”
As Hilda lay on the freezing floor a bus pulled up outside her home and she started to rattle her house keys against the window of the door to attract the driver’s attention.
Four school children were waiting to get on the bus and spotted the retired cook.
“I was looking for the ambulance,” said Hilda. “Then I saw these kids getting on the bus not knowing what to do. I called for help and they all came off.
“They dithered to try to convey to the driver. He should have got off really.”
Hilda, who worked as a housekeeper in America for Dean Martin in the 60s and 70s, said four girls and a boy knelt down beside her, called the paramedics again, directed them to the flat and got her bag for her.
The children made sure Hilda was taken safely to hospital, where she was given two pints of blood and diagnosed with anaemia.
Since coming out of hospital last week Hilda has been searching desperately to find the children.
“I could hug them to death,” she said.
“I asked what school they were from, but I cannot remember,” she said. “I’ve stopped three buses since then and I have asked the driver but they don’t know.”
Hilda was almost unconscious at the time and cann’t even remember the colour of the children’s uniform but thinks they were around ten-years-old.
“They must have been late for school,” said Hilda. “I would have given them money for a taxi.”
If you helped save Hilda or think you know who did please contact tom.bristow@liverpool.com or call 01704398255

On This Day In Dino-history: October 28,1955
Hey pallies, likes today is 'nother outstandin' day in all of Dino-history. Courtesy of our amazin' pallie Mark R. over at his fabulous blog "popculturefanboy," comes the news that on this very Dino-day in 1955 our Dino recorded a batch of songs in Capitol Recordin' studios. A quartet of Dino-tunes were done in a mere three hours, includin' the huge hit, "Memories Are Made Of This" and one of my all-time person fav Dino-songs, "The Lucky Song" from my all-time fav Dino and the kid flick, "Artists And Models."
We sez our thanks for pallie Mark's faithfulness to rememberin' and postin' these stellar Dino-remembrances of great dates in our great man's great recordin' career.

OCEAN'S 11 BLU!
Hey pallies, Rat Pack mania is spreadin' everywhere on the 50th Anniversary of RP classic, "Oceans 11." And likes where the Pack is bein' honored, our Dino is in their midst....so just thinks of all the new pallies who will come to true Dino-devotion as dudes come to dig the coolest of the pack...our King of Cool DINO!
Today's Dino-post comes from a groovy pad tagged SPYVIBE, with the tag line " 1960s STYLE MEETS ACTION." From the pen of Mr. Jason Whiton comes a review of the original O11 that is bein' released in Blueray on November 9. Whiton obviously reveres the pack and knows of where he speaks when he sez these pearls of wisdom...
"The characters embody a rejection of the suburban values of the era to live life as swingers. Sinatra and his gang occupy a Hugh Hefner-inspired lifestyle based on individual freedom, pleasure, adventure, and fraternal loyalty. They are the jet-setting first wave of the sexual revolution, middle-aged heroes at a turning point before the culture shifted toward the space race and the youth market."
ilovedinomartin thanks SPYVIBE and Whiton for puttin' the accent on the pack...may the 50th anniversary of this pack of rats brings more and more pallies to come to pure Dino-devotion. Dino-honorin', DMP btw, clicks on the tagg of this Dino-gram to goes directly to SPYVIBE and views it there!

OCEAN'S 11 BLU!
In celebration of the epic Mondo Lounge fest this weekend in Las Vegas, which will feature rare film screenings, fashions shows, cocktail parties, music, and exhibiting artists Shag and Bosko, Spy Vibe wants to give fans the heads-up about the 50th anniversary Blu-ray edition of the original Ocean's 11 (1960). This Frank Sinatra/Rat Pack classic is an excellent time capsule that centers around a group of post-war buddies who knew which way the cultural winds were blowing in 1960. The characters embody a rejection of the suburban values of the era to live life as swingers. Sinatra and his gang occupy a Hugh Hefner-inspired lifestyle based on individual freedom, pleasure, adventure, and fraternal loyalty. They are the jet-setting first wave of the sexual revolution, middle-aged heroes at a turning point before the culture shifted toward the space race and the youth market.
The film, similar to the modern version with George Clooney and Brad Pitt (2001), centers around cool characters, cool outfits, cool apartments, and impossibly cool schemes to rob casinos in Las Vegas. Check out the bachelor pad decor above where Sinatra and Martin shoot some pool. It's a stylish ride! It's interesting to think about other iconic works from this era. Along with Ocean's 11, the world also saw the release of Kind of Blue by Miles Davis (1959), Time Out by Dave Brubeck (1959), Danger Man with Patrick McGoohan (1960), and by 1961, a couple of movie producers were working with Ian Fleming to launch 007 to the big screen. Seven days after the premiere of Ocean's 11 on August 10th, 1960, The Beatles began their first residency in Hamburg, West Germany, at the Indra Club on Grosse Freiheit on Wednesday August 17th. A cultural tidal wave was forming, but the Rat Pack would hold their place for a little longer. Although I had seen news of a delay in production for the Ocean's 11 disc, it appears that the Blu-ray is available on Amazon for a November 9th release. Blu-ray.com review here.
From Amazon: New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. Roulette wheels spin, cards snap, slots chime, champagne fizzes, shows go on…and the lights go out. It’s the perfect time to steal a kiss or a $25 chip. But for Danny Ocean (Frank Sinatra) and 10 partners in crime, it’s the ideal moment to steal millions. Sinatra and off-screen pals Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop and more play army buddies who scheme to knock out power to the Vegas strip, electronically rig five big casino vaults and raid them all at the same instant. Packed with location-lensed glamour, sweaty suspense, swinging comedy and a stunning twist ending now in gorgeous hi-def, Ocean's 11 is your entertainment best bet.

My sunday serenade for this week is a nice song called Blue Moon.
When i watch Dinos shows i like seeing Dino make mistakes and turn the mistakes into somethin funny.
I also like when Dino sits on the piano and sings songs and changes the lyrics.
I think like, that is one of the funniest parts of the shows like he sings All i want is a room somewhere, your room or my room, i dont care.
Dino sits on the couch and starts singing Blue Moon, he sings it nice and relaxed.
Just like on the cd.
Then Dino sings I heard you whipser please adore me and the song turns funny.
Dino says theres an s before the p,
This is spose to be serious !
It was really funny and then Dino starts to sing the song serious again.
I liked when Dino forgot the lines or maybe that guy with the cue card liked playing jokes on Dino.
Dino didnt like to rehearse, if i was him i wouldnt want to rehearse either.
That made the show more and more funny
Thanx from Levi

One of his primary role models was Dean Martin (whom he described as "the king of cool").
Hey pallies, likes today's Dino-post comes on the recommend of my great Dino-holic pallie Danny G. Danny, who is Italiano himself, shared with me this Dino-related post from the on-line presence of the Wall Street Journal. Likes scriber Mr. Will Friedwald in his prose, "When Italians Ruled The Airwaves," reviews Mr. Mark
Rotella's new tome "Amore: The Story of Italian American Song."
With a book tagg likes "Amore" likes you just can't help but think of our Dino's amazin' classic "That's Amore" first featured in the Dino and the kid flick, "The Caddy." But, regretfully Mr. Friedwald's review contains little 'bout our Dino besides the opennin' reference showcasin' Elvis' devotion to our Dino.
But likes I am sure that this is will be a must-read for all true Dino-addicts 'cause certainly our Dino is numero uno when it comes to Italian masters of song. I have included just a couple of paragraphs to whet your appetite. To read the whole review in in't original source, likes as usual, just clicks on the tagg of this Dino-gram to goes to the WSJ. Thanks to my devoted Dino-bro, Danny G., for puttin' me on to this and to Mr. Friedwald for bringin' this cool new book to our attentionado... Dino-reportin', DMP
When Italians Ruled the Airwaves
Between the big bands and the Beatles, one ethnic group defined what it meant to be a pop star
By Will Friedwald
There was a part of Elvis Presley that wanted desperately to be Italian. One of his primary role models was Dean Martin (whom he described as "the king of cool"). He named his entourage the "Memphis Mafia," in emulation of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack. And he recorded more than enough Italian songs to fill an album, from his No. 1 hit "It's Now or Never" (based on the traditional Neapolitan aria "O Sole Mio") to "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me." The reason for this seeming fascination? When Elvis was growing up, being a pop star usually meant being Italian.
In the 1940s and '50s—the era between the big bands and the Beatles—Italians dominated the charts during the transition from what we now call "traditional pop" to rock and roll. Crooners like Vic Damone, Dean Martin, Frankie Laine, and Tony Bennett were all sons of Italy, but so were early rockers like Dion (DiMucci) and Frankie Valli. Other singers such as Bobby Darin and Louis Prima were less limited by stylistic boundaries. They could be crooning one moment and rocking the next.
Mark Rotella's "Amore" is the first book to take a look at the entire phenomenon of Italian-American song.

Vintage Hollywood: Dean Martin - Roast Videos, Photos, Trivia & More69
My first attempt to learn more about celebrities of Hollywood's past.
I am completely disenchanted with all the drama and crazy stunts that celebrities are pulling these days to get media coverage. It got me to wondering: what was it like it back then? I'm referring to vintage Hollywood. What were the celebrities like? It seems so glamorous, so classy and I have a strong urge to learn more about it. I know there are many notable celebrities that I could write about, but I'm going to start off with finding information on Dean Martin.
What Do I Want to Learn About Dean Martin?
I'll be honest, I barely know anything about Dean Martin. I know what he looks like, I know that he was one of those mega-celebrities from the 60's or 70's (I'm not even sure what years) , I know that he probably spent some time in Las Vegas, but other than that? I don't know much about the man.
My mission, if I choose to accept it? To learn more about the life of Mr. Dean Martin.
How did he become famous?
What were his biggest accomplishments in his career?
What other songs did he sing besides "That's Amore"?
What are the Dean Martin roasts that I hear about all the time?
How many times was he married; anyone famous?
Was he “clean” or did he struggle with alcohol and other substances?
If you're interested in any of those questions, stay tuned. I'm determined to find the answers!

After the success of The Young Lions, Dean co-starred with Frank Sinatra in the movie Some Came Running. Because of the sucess of the past two movies he was in, Dean had man opportunities in film and television.
He eventually went on to headline in Vegas and formed a group with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis called The Rat Pack. They performed their act in tuxedos which consisted of improv and musical performances.
In 1965, The Dean Martin Show started on NBC. It was a variety show that featured various celebrity guests and entertainment. By 1975, the show was cancelled but NBC continued to broadcast Dean every so often through its annual Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. The celebrity roast poked fun of notable celebrities from the era.

Northern Ireland-born teen Andrew Lawson still has the X Factor Down Under

Andrew Lawson
Another week and another win as Northern Ireland’s Australian X Factor hopeful, Andrew Lawson has made it into the final seven.
The teenager, who has been dubbed the next Dean Martin, was put slightly out of his comfort zone with this week’s rock theme but performed Elton John’s Crocodile Rock with his usual style and swagger.
The 18-year-old crooner, who grew up in Lisburn, is now the only under-25 male left in the competition.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph his thrilled mother, Julie Lawson, said: “We are just so proud of him and he is just beside himself to get this far.
“He is now the top under-25 boy in Australia; it blows you away when you think of it like that.”
Julie flies from the family home in Queensland every week to be at the show in Sydney and is delighted to see extra Andrew posters appearing in the audience as the show continues.
But the proud mother said the results show is becoming more difficult as the weeks progress.
“Monday nights are just horrible because we have got really close to the other families so we feel for the other contestants. But we are just delighted for Andrew,” she said.
“I was concerned this week because Andrew did a rock song in week two, just to get it out of the way, and he got a lot of stick from the judges.
“So when it came out that this week was rock week I was a bit worried worried.”
Judge Ronan Keating criticised his choice of song but was blown away by his performance.
“It’s not a rock song, but Andrew besides all that I really enjoyed your performance. Your confidence has come on 100%, your tone was great and you sounded great.
“Honestly I really enjoyed it and you’re definitely growing in this contest,” the Boyzone singer said.
Co-judge Natalie Imbruglia said: “It’s probably the most confident I’ve seen you.
“Working with what you had to work with you totally delivered that song and you entertained me, it was great.”
Although Andrew is becoming a household name in Australia his mother said he is still the same Andrew – last night he celebrated with a trip to McDonalds.
“After the shows when he comes out to meet us on his skateboard at the front gate it is just like having my little Andrew back,” he said.
“He never ever wanted to do anything but sing. I just hope that he will make something out of his singing because this is really his passion.”
Next week contestants will perform movie soundtracks and the singer — whose family emigrated to New Zealand when he was six and then to Australia five years ago — will be mentored by former Westlife star Brian McFadden.

‘Go to the same Kenya safari spot’ as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin
October 18th, 2010
Music-lovers looking to go on a wildlife excursion may be interested in visiting the same areas as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, among other stars.
According to Craig Tansley, writing for the Sydney Morning Herald, the Mount Kenya Safari Club was the destination of choice for these crooners and, more recently, Michael Caine who also descended on the area.
But those simply looking to avoid the crowds may like to go on a Kenya safari 30 minutes away from the site to the Ol Pejeta conservancy reserve.
Mr Tansley pointed out the area has the largest population of black rhinos in east Africa and also houses the southern white and northern white species of rhino.
What's more, he stated that the reserve is home to the only chimpanzee sanctuary in the country.
And a safari in Kenya was also recently recommended in a piece by Wales Online, which observed that people can experience "big game moments that last forever" when they take in a wildlife excursion in the nation.
« Kenya is an “exciting, adventurous” area for safari holidays

Sunday Serenade with Dino: "Tip Of My Fingers"
Hey pallies, likes comin' down a set of black wrought iron stairs, his familiar tux covered by a cool cream-colored trench coat, with his ever-present cigarette in hand, our Dino does his commandin' rendition of country music artist Bill Anderson's ballad of amore, "Tip Of My Fingers"....today's Dino-tune bein' featured on Sunday Serenade with Dino.
Dino has that amazin' gift of makin' each and every song that he sings his very Dino-own and his version of this classic country ballad from the Dino-show is no exception. Indeed our beloved Dino is in command of each phrase, each word, indeed each and every syllable that he croons.
Likes pallies, I am likes always truly so amazed at the immense depth of emotions that our Dino emotes in singin' this sort of ballad of amore....a depth that goes beyond our mere mortal comprehension.
And as our Dino sings with that depth of emotions, likes you truly feels as if he is speakin' from his real life experience of lost amore...'bout a chick that he let slips through his hands...nows it's truly hard to believe that our Dino ever let any beauty slips by him, but likes as we listen to his ever so so serious singin' of this ballad, just likes has to makes all us dudes wonder if our great man was thinkin' 'bout some young thin' that he somehow let's get by him.
Guess pallies, likes we'll never know if he had any particular romantic moments on his mind as he sang...but certainly we are drawn into the song and feel the Dino-depths of his loss of amore.
So likes, sits backs pallies and immerse yourself in the beautiful sounds of our Dino singin' his beautiful rendition of "Tip Of My Fingers." Dino-amazed, DMP
I reached out my arms and I touched you
With soft words I whispered your name
I held you right on the tip of my fingers
But that was as close as I came
My eyes had a vision of sweet lips
Yeelding beneath my command
I held your love on the tip of my fingers
But I let it slip right through my hands
Yes I let it slip right through my hands
Somebody took you when I wasn't looking
And I should have known from the start
It's a long long way from the tip of my fingers
To the love hidden deep in your heart
To the love hidden deep in your heart
I held your love on the tips of my fingers
But I let it slip right through my hands
But I let it slip right through my hands

To the love hidden deep in your heart
To the love hidden deep in your heart
I held your love on the tips of my fingers
But I let it slip right through my hands
But I let it slip right through my hands

When the Rat Pack ruled supreme
Hey pallies, lots of cool stuff is comin' out in honor of the Rat Pack's 50th anniversary. Today's post features a preview of a glorious coffee table photograph book simply tagged "The Rat Pack." Edited by Tony Nourmand, written by Shawn Levy, with art direction and design by Graham Marsh, "The Rat Pack" will be released on November 11 by Reel Art Press.
Today's Dino-message is sorta a preview of comin' attractions from our pallies over at Guardian.com.co.uk....some wonderfully interestin' patter 'bout the pack in an essay by Mr. Richard Williams.
Although the Dino-mentions here are few...even the pix included shamefully does not include our beloved Dino...this is a well written piece of Rat Pack prose and likes I learned a lots that I never knew before 'bout our Dino and company.
The one stellar Dino-mention goes this way....
"Not that they were entirely lacking in genuine wit. "I'd like to tell you some of the good things the Mafia is doing," Dean Martin drawled one opening night at the Mob-run Sands, pausing to wait for the half-shocked, half-delighted laughter to build."
Ain't that just likes our Dino to poke fun at any and every institution...includin' the Mafia...as only our Dino can...and as only our Dino can gets away with it all!
So, likes sit back and enjoy some edifyin' prose on the pack of rats. Thanks to our pallies at the Guardian and to author Mr. Richard Williams..and likes I woulda likes to say a special Dino-thanks to our pallie Danny who first put me on to this great find. To view this in it's original format, as usual, just clicks on the tagg of this here Dino-post. And, btw pallies, stay tuned for more on this new Rat Pack tome to be shared right here at ilovedinomartin. Dino-reportin', DMP
When the Rat Pack ruled supreme
Fifty years ago Frank Sinatra and his buddies helped catapult John F Kennedy into the White House, an unforgettable moment in US history

They had it made. The booze, the broads, the banter. The handmade suits, the swimming pools, the automatic welcome into the backrooms of restaurants owned by men of discretion. From Las Vegas to Palm Springs to Miami, they lived in a world of endless sunshine. Nothing, surely, could be as much fun as the life of the Rat Pack at the dawn of the 60s. The more they drank onstage, the more they indulged a liking for obscure in-group nonsense, the louder the audience cheered. During one four-week season at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, 34,000 people flocked to see Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford exude the glow of an effortless hedonism, behind which flickered the shadows of organised crime and political corruption.
Sinatra sang, Martin boozed, Davis danced, Bishop did the standup thing and Lawford was Lawford, a handsome English actor of aristocratic background and indeterminate talent who happened to have become the brother-in-law of the next president of the United States. Occasionally they were joined by a woman, perhaps the singer Keely Smith, whom Sinatra dated, or Shirley MacLaine, who had a walk-on part in Ocean's 11, the film that celebrated their camaraderie. Their glamour was such that they didn't need to sing properly and their jokes didn't have to be funny. Their drooling audiences picked up the patented slang. Something (or somebody) good was "a gas" or "a gasser"; something (or somebody) tiresome was "a bunter".
Not that they were entirely lacking in genuine wit. "I'd like to tell you some of the good things the Mafia is doing," Dean Martin drawled one opening night at the Mob-run Sands, pausing to wait for the half-shocked, half-delighted laughter to build.
Fifty years ago this month the Rat Pack were on the campaign trail, backing a presidential candidate whose youth and vigour appeared to mirror their own. The first meeting between Sinatra and John F Kennedy had taken place five years earlier, during a Democratic party rally at which the singer performed The House I Live In, a song advocating racial and religious tolerance that won an honorary Academy Award in 1946. Sinatra and Kennedy started spending time together at the singer's home in Palm Springs and the young senator's hotel suite in Washington. Each had something the other wanted, and by the time Kennedy made his run at the presidency, the Rat Pack had become a chorus of cheerleaders.
To boost the campaign, they opened the Democratic national convention in Los Angeles with a performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, to the dismay of the delegates from Mississippi, who objected to the presence of a black man among the whites on stage. Sinatra himself performed at Kennedy rallies, including one in Hawaii while on location for a film (The Devil at 4 O'Clock), at the actor Janet Leigh's Women for Kennedy tea, and at a $100-a-plate dinner in Chicago, where he shared the bill with Judy Garland. He appeared on radio and TV with Eleanor Roosevelt, widow of the late FDR, and recorded a new version of the show song High Hopes, with an amended lyric: "Everyone wants to back Jack/Jack is on the right track"; it was played by a loudspeaker truck preceding the motorcade that took JFK through small-town America that summer.
This was the very pinnacle of the Rat Pack's power, influence and charisma. Sinatra had already been granted a shareholding in the Sands, one of the ritziest joints on the Vegas strip, operated by the New Jersey mobster Joseph "Doc" Stacher, where he and his friends made regular appearances, setting the tone for the town's explosive growth. In 1960 he and a group of associates bought the Cal-Neva Lodge, a casino hotel on the shores of Lake Tahoe, literally straddling the states of California and Nevada (the state line ran through the gaming room). Joe Kennedy, Jack's father, knew it well from the years of prohibition, when he was collaborating with the Mob to compile a fortune from bootleg liquor. A silent shareholder in the new ownership was the Chicago gang boss Sam Giancana, who had earned Sinatra's gratitude by giving his career a useful push when it fell into the doldrums in the early 50s.
As the presidential campaign hit top gear, the Cal-Neva became a place where Jack and Frank got together with starlets and showgirls. They and Giancana each had an affair with Judy Campbell, a former model. The singer and the president-to-be shared the favours of Marilyn Monroe, who was kept out of sight in a chalet overlooking the lake, particularly when her former husband, the baseball hero Joe DiMaggio, came calling. When Joe Kennedy, masterminding and bankrolling his son's campaign, needed votes in the crucial West Virgina primary, he asked Sinatra to enlist Giancana's help, which was readily forthcoming. Using Sinatra as a conduit, Giancana also passed a covert donation to the campaign from Jimmy Hoffa's Teamsters Union.
Once Joe's boy was in the White House, however, the dream began to fall apart. The Rat Pack – minus a sceptical Martin – performed at the new president's inaugural gala, but when Robert Kennedy, the younger brother, took the job of attorney-general and made it his mission to chase down organised crime, Sinatra's days as a casino owner were numbered. In 1962 he was named in a justice department report. Monroe spent the last desperate weekend of her life at the Cal-Neva, in the company of the usual crowd, before being flown back to Los Angeles in Sinatra's wood-panelled private jet.
Then Giancana, a known gangster, was spotted at the Cal-Neva by state gaming board agents, an infringement that cost the singer his casino-operator's licence and led to an abrupt, enraged switch in his political allegiance. In 1963 he sold his shares in both the Lodge and the Sands; a year later the Beatles invaded America, changing the face of the music business and banishing the whole ring-a-ding-ding shtick that had captivated the Copa Room. The next inaugural event at which Sinatra performed would be that of a Republican, Ronald Reagan, in 1980, by which time the Rat Pack, once the life-force of the entertainment industry, had faded into sepia legend.
The Rat Pack is published on 11 Nov, but is available to pre-order from 13 Oct at www.reelartpress.com

MUSICIAL MOMENTS: DEAN MARTIN
Here is a great video of Dean Martin. I think if the music industry was better, Dino would have been perfect for the medium of music television. Here is the only music video that Dean did. It was a video for his song "Since I Met You Baby". It was from his last album "The Nashville Sessions". The video was from the mid 1980s. The video was different, and Dino pulled it off...

Andrew Lawson
A Northern Irish singer has been dubbed the next Dean Martin after he crooned his way through to the final eight of X Factor Australia.
Eighteen-year-old Andrew Lawson — who grew up in Lisburn — wooed the audience with his jazz version of Eagles hit, Heartache Tonight.
“I felt my performance last night [Sunday] was good so I was fairly confident going into the results show,” the talented singer said, “I’m still over the moon, I’m just so happy to be through to another week.”
Judges Ronan Keating, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Sebastian and Kyle Sandilands loved Andrew’s laid back lounge style.
“The previous week Ronan said I looked awkward on stage. But on Sunday he said, ‘I don’t know what I was talking about — you were great’.
“I didn’t get a single bit of negative feedback from any of the judges this week.”
Andrew attended Ballymacash Primary School before his family emigrated to New Zealand when he was six. They finally settled down in Queensland, Australia five years ago.
He told the Belfast Telegraph that singing has always been in his blood. “I always sang. I thought it was just normal — I thought everyone could sing but as I got older people began saying I had a good voice and I was a great singer so I decided to pursue that,” Andrew said.
His father, Harry Lawson who owned the family butchers in Bridge Street, Lisburn, introduced him to musical legends Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and now Andrew hopes he can become as famous as his idols.
With his floppy surfer hair and slick dress code of blazers and skinny ties the singer has gained a huge fan base — almost 2,000 followers have joined his Facebook page.
The teenager said: “It’s kind of strange having people come up to you asking for your autograph.
“They think you’re not a normal person. It’s very strange to have people in the street know your name. But I am loving it — I know this is something I was destined to do.”
The singer, who has been compared to Michael Bublé, had planned on moving to the UK to try and get a break in music but now he believes X Factor has given him more options.
“You never know, my mentor, Kyle Sandilands might give me a record deal after the show! And if I win my life will just be completely changed,” he said.
His ecstatic aunt, Jenny Dunlop said: “I think he’s the dark horse to be honest. At the beginning of the show he was tipped as the one to watch, he’s just so different from the rest in the show.
“I said that if he got through this week I would go over to see him, and now I’m going to have to do it. It’s very exciting,” said Jenny who now lives in West Kirby in England.
The Australian X Factor live show goes out on Sundays with the results show broadcast each Monday.

Dean Martin's Nickel Breakfast
Hey pallies, likes in referrin' to his performances on the Dino-show, our Dino often sez that "I play to da common folk." And, likes we know that the "common folk" loves our Dino, but likes have you ever wondered if our rich, famous, handsome, multi-talented Dino can really relate to the ups and down of the average dude's daily life?
Today's Dino-post by Mr. Paul Kyriazi at the ecademy.com pad (clicks on tag of this Dino-post to goes there) assures all us pallies that indeed our Dino knows, our Dino understands, and our Dino cares 'bout the plight of "da common folk."
Mr. Paul recounts the often shared Dino-tale of how our great man and Sonny King found a creative way of sharin' a nickel breakfast between 'em when they were likes short of bread.
Cool, how the manager of the breakfast joint caught on to the Dino-scheme and likes graciously offered to feed 'em both for a nickel. Our generous Dino and Mr. King remembered that kind deed and, as you will soon read, when they had made it big, made the effort to search for that generous manager and each gifted him with $25 grand each.
Indeed, our Dino has had more then one hard luck story in his day...so take heart that our beloved Dino understands our struggles as well. And, likes when our Dino made it big, likes he rewarded those that had helped him out in his strugglin' days.
I truly never ever tire of readin' true Dino-history...always learnin' from...always growin' from our Dino's life and times and his Dino-responses to whatever life throws him! ilovedinomartin sez our thanks to Mr. Paul Kyriazi for liftin' up the name of our Dino and sharin' this bit of Dino-history with his readers. Social : Dean Martin's Nickel Breakfast - Don't Miss this!
by Paul Kyriazi on 10-Oct-10 9:39am
When singers Dean Martin and Sonny King had little money, they would go to a restaurant that served 2 donuts, coffee, and orange juice for a nickel. Sonny stayed outside while Dean ate one donut, half the coffee and juice.
Then Sonny would go in and say, "Hey Dean, you've got an important call." Dean would say, "Okay. Why don't you finish my breakfast." which Sonny did.
After doing this several times, the manager caught on and said, "You guys don't have to do this. Come in together and I'll serve you both for a nickel."
Years later, Dean and Sonny searched for the manager and gave him $25,000 each.

After doing this several times, the manager caught on and said, "You guys don't have to do this. Come in together and I'll serve you both for a nickel."
Years later, Dean and Sonny searched for the manager and gave him $25,000 each.

Inscription. One of the most famous entertainers of the 20th century, Dean Martin was born Dino Crocetti in Steubenville in 1917, the son of Italian immigrants. At age 16 he entered the steel mills and later boxed under the name of "Kid Crochet." He began his singing career in 1941, and in 1946 teamed up with Jerry Lewis in a comedic partnership that spanned ten years on stage, radio, and television. His trademark crooning style and sentimental ballads -- including "That's Amore," "Memories Are Made Of This," "Volare," and "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" -- were standards of 1950s and 1960s popular music. Martin continued his multifaceted career as part of Frank Sinatra's "Ratpack" Las Vegas nightclub act (1960-1970). He furnished music and romantic interest for over fifty films, and continued performing into the early 1990s. He died in 1995 in Los Angeles.
