A DRIVER had a lucky escape when two bricks were thrown off a Monash Freeway overpass and hit his windscreen.
Nick, 38, from South Morang, said one of the bricks shattered his Mercedes van window and the other landed on his lap.
Police are investigating the frightening incident, which happened between 7.30 and 7.45pm on Tuesday.
"I was just driving along, just casually, enjoying the nice weather and listening to a bit of Dean Martin, and the next thing I know I've got a brick on my lap," Nick told 3AW.
"Thankfully it happened to me because I was driving a van so it hit low down on the windscreen.
"If it was a car it would have hit higher up on the screen and caused a lot more damage - thankfully there were no kids or anything involved."
Nick did not see who threw the bricks and described the noise of the brick hitting his windscreen as an "explosion."
"I didn't see anything, I was just driving along and the next minute, like an explosion, and then I had a brick on my lap," he said.
It happened on a footbridge close to East Malvern train station and Ivanhoe Grove as the van travelled city-bound.
Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with information, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

  3. There really is no wonderful experience quite like driving with out Dino's voice coming from a car's speakers.

The author of this story had a very, very close call -- and the closeness of that call makes our Dino's music all the more symbolically significant.
