Mia Farrow, Dean Martin and Sharon Tate on the set of the Movie 'The Wrecking Crew' 1968
Photographed on location in Joshua Tree, California, 1968.
The Wrecking Crew, released in December, 1968 and starring Dean Martin, Elke Sommer, Nancy Kwan, Tina Louise and Sharon Tate, is the fourth and final film in a series of American comedy-spy-fi theatrical releases featuring Martin as secret agent Matt Helm.
As with the previous three Helm spy movies (The Silencers, Murderers' Row, and The Ambushers), it is based only loosely upon Donald Hamilton's 1960 novel of the same title and takes great liberties with the plot and characters, being developed as a spoof of the James Bond films. The Wrecking Crew was the second Helm novel published and the earliest of the books to be adapted.
Chuck Norris makes his film debut in a small role.
This was the last film of Tate's to be released before her murder at the hands of Charles Manson's followers on August 9, 1969.
The film ends with the announcement of a fifth Matt Helm film, The Ravagers (which would have been based upon Hamilton's 1964 novel of the same title). However, Dean Martin declined to return for another film in the face of a declining box office. When Martin refused to make The Ravagers, Columbia held up Martin's share of the profits on Murderers' Row. The project was then cancelled.
A very Happy New Year DMP and to everyone else as well! I am deeply humbled and honored that you have chosen my small DM contribution to start off 2016 on 'ilovedinomartin', thank you.
ReplyDeleteI came across these photographs of DM with Mia and Sharon recently and knew that they had seen the light of day before but they were new to me. I did not know a few were a bit rarer so i am esp happy. What a wonderful trio, Dean looking very happy (who wouldn't with these two lovely ladies) and restful, Mia coming off one of my all time favorite scary movies, 'Rosemary's Baby' and of course the beautiful and very talented Sharon Tate who would soon meet a very sad and tragic ending.
Thank you again my friend and have a great New Year.
Scott
Great stuff, Scott! So sad 'bout Sharon. What a beauty! Dean seemed to have a good friendship with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you Danny G., it was a tragedy what happened to Sharon and the other victims of those senseless crimes. On a more positive note it seems that Dean always manages to bring out the best not only for those who know him but admire him as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a very nice week!
Scott
