Did not realize this was in bloom until too late, the flowers are huge and weigh a lot, they really need to be staked but this plant is in need of repotting I could not get a stake in the pot. The blooms got scrapped up with no support and the winds we've been having, was 4 blooms I cut 1 off because of all the damage

  1. Gigantea is Spanish for gigantic.

I believe that giga in reference to an orchid refers to the large size of the orchid, but I'm not sure.

The photos look like something called "double orchid."

  2. Pictures of blc orchids.

    Bearded orchids, perhaps.

    Orchid meaning and symbolism:

The flower symbolism associated with the orchid is love, beauty, refinement, many children, thoughtfulness and mature charm.
