Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin made comedy magic together

As a double act with Dean Martin and later as a solo performer, Jerry Lewis gained millions of fans. He began stand-up comedy as a teenager after he dropped out of high school, dressing up in outlandish costumes and lip-synching to songs. At the time, this kind of performance was called a record act. It wasn't that successful and right about the time he was about to be fired, Jerry invited Dean Martin to join him on stage. The rest is history.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis’ double comedy act propelled them to stardom. From their very first performance, they had an instantaneous on-stage chemistry. Dean played the smooth entertainer to Jerry’s crazy kid. Together, they made comedy magic.

James Kaplan, co-author of the book Dean & Me: (A Love Story), which he wrote with Jerry Lewis, takes us through Jerry’s life.
