He has a wonderful chapter in the book about his friend Dean Martin.

Hey pallies, likes in doin' a wee bit of searchin' for info on the Dino/Alan King connection spoken of in last Saturday's Dino-gram, we happened upon a review of Mr. King's bio, “Name-Dropping: The Life and Lies of Alan King.” by our Dino-lovin' pallie Otto of  "THE OTTO FILES" - “WHERE THE CLASSICS NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE.”

What we were thrilled to discover is that King spent a whole chapter of  his volume accentin' his friendship with our Dino and you can read Otto's reflections below.  And, likes doin' a bit more googlin' we found several pages of his chapter 4 tagged "DEAN" for our Dino-edification...very very cool Dino-read for sure!!!!!  And, likes if you clicks  HERE youse will be able to enjoy his Dino-reflections for youself at Google Books.

We thanks our Dino-devoted pallie Otto of "THE OTTO FILES" for this insight into the life and times of our most beloved Dino.  Likes if you wanna reads the whole post, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-gram.  Dino-delightedly, DMP

He has a wonderful chapter in the book about his friend Dean Martin. Back before Dean Martin was Dean Martin of “Martin & Lewis” or Alan King was “Alan King of ‘The Ed Sullivan Show,'” they shared an apartment in New York with Sonny King and their agent, Lou Perry. Actually, it was Lou Perry’s place but he let his young, struggling clients stay with him until they could make some real dough. He provides some interesting and humorous background on his friend Dean Martin and then ends the chapter on a very touching note.  He’d heard that Dean, at the end of his life, used to have dinner at the same Italian restaurant every night by himself. King was in L.A. and went to the restaurant and surprised Dean. Martin was so happy to see King that he both laughed and cried. King writes, “I went back to my hotel thinking about him, my vagabond friend. He was a gambler, a drinker, a womanizer – all the good things.”

  1. Nice to hear that Dean had friends that still cared for him in the end. I truly believe he really just wanted to be alone at that point of his life. Very sad endin' to such a fun guy. Dino was like a brightly glowing star that eventually & inevitably had to fade away. Very sad.
