Hey pallies, likes as the mighty month of March blows in here at ilovedinomartin, we return yet 'gain to that classic blog, "classicmoviechat.com" where movie affectionados Joe Morella and Frank Segers hold forth. Today's post is part of a larger post that these guys have shared based on patter they have received from their readership on a number of different topics they have covered in the recent past.
Joe and Frank graciously posted my patter to 'em upon their postin' of their February 10 Dino-devotion, "Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis — The Breakup. And Our Man Was There!" And, in addition to sharin' my Dino-reflections, likes these dudes decided to ask yours truly, Dino Martin Peters, a Dino-quire.
Likes their inquirin' minds simply want to know what this Dino-devotee thinks of Nick Tosches' Dino-bio, "DINO: Living High In The Dirty Business Of Dreams." They ask, "Question: have you read it, and if so, what do you think of it? Please let us know, DMP."
Well, it took me quite a bit of time to formulate my Dino-response to Frank and Joe, but respond I did! You can read my Dino-reply at the end of this Dino-gram, and likes I woulda be very curious to know your Dino-thoughts on my Dino-prose.
ilovedinomartin sends out our Dino-appreciato to our great pallies Joe and Frank at "classicmoviechat.com" for helpin' to put the accent on our Dino and liftin' up the mission of ilovedinomartin. To read this in it's original format, likes just clicks on the tag of this Dino-gram. Dino-proclaimin', DMP
In response to our Feb. 10 blog, Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis — The Breakup. And Our Man Was There!, our uber-Martin fan, Dino Martin Peters, wrote in with the following:
Hey pallies, likes Mr. Frank And Mr. Joe. How cool to find you sharin’ more Dino-history with your readership. Simply loves how Mr. Lewis recounts this story in his stellar Dino-bio, “Dean and Me: A Love Story.” Know that your Dino-reflections are ‘gain bein’ shared with all the pallies gathered ’round ilovedinomartin. Keeps lovin’ our Dino!
Thanks, DMP. We expect to eventually get to the Jerry Lewis book, but we are far more interested in what you think of another book written about your man. We are not referring to the books written by Martin’s children, Deana and Ricci, but the 1999 Nick Tosches tome, Dino: Living High In The Dirty Business of Dreams. The book handles your man in rougher fashion.
Question: have you read it, and if so, what do you think of it? Please let us know, DMP.
Hey pallies Frank and Joe, how great to have you feature my Dino-thoughts in this here post. To me Tosches’ stunnin’ Dino-bio is not the sort of masterpiece that one reads cover to cover likes any ordinary volume. “DINO: Living High In The Dirty Business Of Dreams” is our main man’s main book, and I see it as the essential Dino-resource for all Dino-philes to savor and delve deeply into over and over again.
As scriber Nick points out….our Dino is likes the ultimate engima…likes totally totally unknowable, but Tosches does a stellar job of puttin’ the life, times, and teachin’s of our Dino into one portable source. Others have spoken of Tosches havin’ sorta a love/hate relationship with our great man…and I thinks that is perhaps the best way of framin’ his amazin’ work.
In other writin’s on our Dino, Tosches has described our most beloved Dino as “an American Buddha” and I find that a brillant comparison. You may wanna checks out the Dino-amore-day 2012 post at ilovedinomartin tagged “Dino-amore Nick Tosches Style” where we posted Tosches amazin’ Dino-essay “God Created Dean Martin In His Own Image Then Stood Back,” which is chapter 27 in “Nick Tosches’ Reader.” Anyone who questions Tosches devotion to our Dino simply needs to read that amazin’ reflection.
BTW, did you know that “DINO: Living High In The Dirty Business Of Dreams” won Blender Mag’s top award for greatest Rock and Roll bio of all times?
Pallies who shy away from Tosches’ tome simply are afraid of seein’ all sides of our great man’s great life. Those who truly love our Dino loves each and every detail of his amazin’ life journey.
Hope you find this answer helpful pallies!
Dino-devotedly, Dino Martin Peters
Great response pal o mine! I couldn't have said it any better myself!

Hey pallie, likes thanks ever so much Danny-o likes for that vote of Dino-confidence! Keeps lovin' our Dino!
ReplyDeleteGreat answer, DMP.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of negative stuff in that book by Tosches. One part that I remember well is that Dorothy Malone supposedly said that our Dino's eyes were "dead." This implies that he had no soul -- and that I do not believe. Also in Tosches book is a lot of creative interior monologue (stream of consciousness); interesting stuff, but creative writing and not necessarily factual.
On the other hand, the family-written books seem too rosy to me. As for Jerry Lewis, he clearly idolized our Dino; much of his book rings true, but I feel that he put our Dino in the best possible light because Jerry loved Dino like the father-brother he wished he'd had. Clearly, Jerry saw our Dino as his mentor in many respects.
So, I'm thinking that the truth about our Dino is somewhere in the middle. Like most people in show biz and in other professions too, our Dino likely had three different personas; in his case, the family one, the entertainer one, and the playboy one (Latin lover). He could easily lead quite the active sexual life as he had a vasectomy after his youngest, Gina, was born.
Anyway, that's my two cents.
Hey pallie, likes Miss AOW, I am very pleased that you liked by Dino-response. And, I think your Dino-thoughts are right on the money as well. Truly our Dino is the greatest of the greatest enginas, and that is one of the hugest of the huge reasons I love him so...mystery is so so cool! Keeps lovin' our Dino!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Allways on watch,
ReplyDeleteDino had nice eyes and a cool smile.
Never read a book and dont think i ever will, i think a dvd is better and i seen bios of dino and the rat pack that are good.
Kys dad says i should read books, i told him dino only read 1 book, black beauty, Kys dad said okay, read black beauty then
Hey pallie, likes loves that story of Miss Ky's dad and your conversation on "Black Beauty." Levi dude, one day you will simply have to read some Dino-tomes...one of the bestest of best ways to get a real Dino-education! Keeps lovin' our Dino!
ReplyDeleteI read it when it came out in paperback. While I think the book was based on fact I just can't imagine our Dino swearing every other word. Simply too classy to do that. Like all of us I'm sure he did use that sorta language with friends or if he was kidding around just not all the time to the extent that the book implies.
ReplyDeleteDeansPalley
A few times recently I`ve thought about finding a copy of this book and reading it, just can`t make up my mind.
ReplyDeleteI don`t really want to read negative stuff about Dean.
The other books were ok but the only book which would really interest me is if Dean had written an autobiography and that was never on the cards.
I know we`ll never see the complete Dean Martin Shows released now :(
My enjoyment comes from watching Dean and listening to his songs.
That`s the great man I know and I don`t really want to hear the negative stuff.
For me the greatest Dean Martin book is the book written by John Chintala.
A truly great referance book with all the dates and details of everything Dean did during his career.
Hey pallie, likes dude, I don't think that our Dino used such language in the public eye, but was free to be himself when he was with his pallies....have you ever heard the cd recordin' of our Dino in 'Vegas...our great man was truly his swingin' self in that recordin'....Keeps lovin' our Dino, and likes thanks for expressin' your Dino-perspective!
ReplyDeleteHey pallie, likes Miss Ky, I just knows that you will one day find yourself readin' this masterpiece on the life, times, and teachin's of our Dino. Oh, how I woulda loves to get my hands on Chintala's Dino-reference. Keeps lovin' our Dino!
ReplyDeleteDeansPalley,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that our Dino could swear. In fact, I imagine that he was proficient in Profanitese.
But like most men of his generation, I think that he curbed that kind of language unless "out with the guys."
Dean definately swore, lol
ReplyDeleteNot in front of his fans I don`t think, but as Dean said he did when he was with his pals and on the movie sets.
I once read that on the set of one of his movies a female co star took offence at Deans swearing and they didn`t get along with each other.
I can`t remember who the actress was now.
I have a feeling it was Susan Hayward but I can`t be sure.
I had a neighbour who swore worse than Dean.
I try not to swear myself but a lot of people do and it`s nothing these days.
If I jamn my finger or something, I`ll usually yell out Horse Radish !
I picked that up somewhere early in my life, lol
Hey pallie, likes Miss AOW, I thinks you are right on the Dino-mark 'bout our most beloved Dino's use of language. Thanks for sharin' and as always, keeps lovin' our Dino!
ReplyDeleteHey pallie, likes thanks Miss Ky for chimin' in 'gain on this Dino-topic....our Dino's use of verbage is simply part of what makes our Dino Dino! Keeps lovin' our Dino!
