The Dean Martin Show - Time-Life to Bring DVDs of the Classic '60s Variety Show to General Retail

Back in 2003 we first reported that the classic 1965 variety program, The Dean Martin Show, was available through a subscription offer sold online and through infomercials, thanks to a deal between Greg Garrison Productions and the direct-response marketing firm Guthy-Renker. For several months in 2007-2008, NBC-Universal brought a lawsuit against those organizations and others, challenging the ownership of DVD rights to the program. The suit was settled out of court just a couple of weeks into 2008, and soon after the direct-selling of DVDs for The Dean Martin Show resumed. The discs were never offered through traditional retail channels however, leaving many fans (who are either unable or unwilling to buy these as a send-away) high and dry.
Now the folks at Time Life are coming in to fill that void! New pre-order listings at Amazon.com show that on May 24th the studio will release 3 products for the show, each one a different configuration. First up, for the biggest fans, will be a 6-DVD package titled "The Dean Martin Show - The Best Of, Collector's Edition", priced at $59.95 SRP. If that's too rich for your blood, then there will be two lower-cost options, each a "best-of" with content that can be found on the larger set. There's a 2-DVD set for $19.98 SRP, and also a single-disc release for $12.98 SRP.
All three titles are available to pre-order from Amazon right now, at a discount, using the above-provided links. Our reliable industry resources tell us that these will be available at general retail from any participating chain, but that the release date shown by Amazon is early and could possibly move. They also tell us that these are all DIFFERENT products than the previous Guthy-Renker items, and that they will have something those earlier releases never had: Bonus Material. Look for interviews with Dean's daughter Gail Martin (who was a regular on the show), along with comedians Jonathan Winters and Phyllis Diller, plus "several key production personnel on the show" as well. Sweet!
Package art and finalized details aren't available yet from the studio, but Time Life tells us to expect a formal press release in the not-too-distant future will all the info. Stay tuned, and we'll bring that to you just as soon as we can!
Wow! I've got to have these DVD's!
