New On DVD: Toys In The Attic

Hey pallies, likes fantastic Dino-news to share this very Dino-day. From the pad of northjersey.com comes the news that that classic Dino-drama, "Toys In The Attic" has just been released on MGM on Demand DVD (to checks out the news there, as usual, just clicks on the tagg of this Dino-gram.

Our beloved Dino stars in this brilliant, burnin' drama with the likes of classic actors Miss Geraldine Page and Miss Wendy Hiller, not to mentions the loving Yvette Mimieux. A trailer for this Dino-flick can be found at Amazon. Because the DVD is "on demand" it means that there are unfortunately no extras and it will be needed to ordered from a pad like Amazon and probably not available from a local store.

Finally 'nother of our Dino's stellar dramatic roles has finally comes available on DVD...and likes on the eve of our great man's 93rd anniversary of his entrance into our world. Tells ya pallies, likes I can't wait to gets my hands on this Dino-treasure. Dino-delightedly, DMP

TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1963, MGM on Demand, unrated, $20) — Like a Tennessee Williams fever dream, this Lillian Hellman-scripted potboiler is full of steamy New Orleans settings, twisted sexuality and grand displays of emotion. The story about two unmarried sisters (Geraldine Page, Wendy Hiller) and their unnatural devotion to their misguided brother (Dean Martin) might be over the top but it's entertaining. Besides, can you afford to miss Martin proving he's as good an actor as Rat Pack compadre Frank Sinatra? Extras: none.

  1. A very serious film. And scripted by Lillian Hellman, too.

Dino played this one straight -- for drama only.

I do recommend the film, which I've seen several times (cable TV).

  3. Glad to see this oft-overlooked 'serious' role for Dean get a release. Along with CAREER, one of his most underrated films.

  4. Hey pallie, thanks for sharin' your Dino-thoughts Mr. Hal. Was just readin' in Tosches' Dino-bio a few ago how "Toys" was our Dino's last serious role...such a shame that our beloved Dino's serious roles never got the acclaim they so richly deserve....all my best to you pallie...
