Coupled with Jerry Lewis or alone: Dean Martin made his mark in music and cinema.

A CENTURY AGO TODAY, HE WAS BORN IN STEUBENVILLE, DINO PAUL CROCETTI, AKA DEAN MARTIN, UNFORGETTABLE ACTOR AND SINGER.

Son of parents of Italian origin, he chose to make it more american friendly its name to succeed. The family name, Martin, is in fact the anglofonizzata version of the name of the Italian Nino Martini content. It was with that name who managed to establish itself as a singer in clubs in New York, after the boxer and the gas station. His career can be divided into two periods, now let's see.

COUPLED WITH JERRY LEWIS

The meeting with Jerry Lewis was decisive for Dean Martin . The two met the first time at the Glass Hat Club in New York, where both were performing separated. Their first solo exhibition took place July 25, 1946 at Club 500 in Atlantic City was the start of a successful comedy duo that lasted a decade. On stage realizzavano of songs rich performances and sketches, some improvised on the spot. Given the appreciation of the public, along turned America, coming to perform at New York's Copacabana. After debuting even on TV (in the program The Ed Sullivan Show on CBS-TV) and radio (in The Martin and Lewis Show ), in 1948 their agent negotiated for them a big contract with Paramount . Together, they broke through in the cinema: realized sixteen films, from My Friend Irma (1949) up to Hollywood or Death! (1956). The partnership, because of growing personal conflicts, stopped exactly (or almost) ten years after their debut, on July 24, 1956.

THE DEAN MARTIN SOLO

Despite initial skepticism - many believed that alone is not worth anything - Dean Martin achieved great successes even without Lewis . In addition to music (in 1954, was published the famous That's Amore , a tribute to the city of Naples), the cinema was able in fact to assert itself both in comedy and in drama. We remember it The Young Lions (1958, starring Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift) and Western An Honor Dollar (1959, opposite John Wayne). In the sixties he became part of the Rat Pack , a group of actors and singers led by his friend Frank Sinatra . With the Rat Pack, he played several films, including Ocean's Eleven, Three Against All, I 4 in Chicago . After shooting a series of four films in the secret agent Matt Helm , Dean Martin began the artistic decline, also related to his health. His last film of Conspiracies Parallel , 1987, a year before retiring from the scene.

DINO PAUL CROCETTI, IN ARTE DEAN MARTIN
